Years ago, my colleagues at Business Insider and I tracked YouTuber “cancellation” arcs. What we found is that for many entertainers, “cancellation” actually sets the stage for a redemption arc, one that can raise their profile higher than ever. It wasn’t career-ending. It was fuel.

I sometimes feel that travel writing describes a world less accessible to ordinary people, with less money, fitness, time or gimmicks. Not so @monisharajesh.bsky.social in the wonderful Moonlight Express which depicts the peculiar charms of night trains and how easily democratic they often are.

Hope, creativity, community, all intersect in revolutionary acts of radical joy.
Since people find being hopeful and optimistic so cringe these days, let me remind you once again that there isn’t a single liberation movement in the world that wasn’t built on hope and optimism.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

100% this. Now also wondering "if I stick a 'Palestine Action' sign on illegally & obstructively parked cars, will they get towed away?"
There are weekly, if not daily, criminal offences occurring at every pelican and zebra crossing I use around me, more dangerous (and indeed, occasionally terrifying) than holding a placard, and yet I never see a police presence at any of them

Struthio!
the booker prize judges make a lot of fuss about having to read 153 books. but assuming an average weight of 750g per book, that comes in at 115kg of literature - or just under the weight of a single adult male ostrich

I was thinking of the late Kit Reed today. Talk of the rapture had me pondering SFF where a portion of the population simply vanish, as in her novel Where (2015), but it's also 8 years today since she died.
I wrote about her work for SFRA Review.
