I've written my first review in ages. Theodora Goss' thoughtful and thought provoking collection Letters From An Imaginary Country

Letters From An Imaginary Country  – Theodora Goss.
The imaginary country (or occasionally just a city,) has long been a device in SFF. Separate, in this context, from the secondary world of Westeros or Discworld which have no link to our world, the…

Why did 61 thousand people boo JD Vance at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony?
Because that's the maximum capacity of the venue.

Of course the elite who harm women and children for fun also plan and execute heinous war crimes and crimes against humanity including genocides at unimaginable scales for their day jobs!

We must connect the dots on how personal and political are inextricable.

Also can I just please point out about the racist discourse about Odyssey casting: this woman is quite literally the eighth wonder of the world and if anyone thinks that this face would NOT launch a million ships, please go to specsavers and get your eyesight tested immediately.

Just seen the covers are now up for the new editions of Judith Moffett's brilliant Holy Ground Trilogy coming from @patrickswenson.bsky.social Fairwood Press in April, June & July. They're very striking. I already have 2 older copies of the first two but might be tempted by a matched set.

This isn’t about convicting Don Lemon. It’s unlikely that will happen. It’s about intimidating journalists & making them censure themselves out of fear of consequences. It’s about eroding the free press because the administration can’t afford the criticism.
This just in: "Don Lemon was taken into custody by federal agents last night in Los Angeles, where he was covering the Grammy awards," Lemon's attorney Abbe Lowell says.

After researching at irregular intervals over the last few years I can now announce that my typical drive home from the office takes about the same time as listening to 'He Loved Him Madly' by Miles Davis.

So Trump made a rambling, inaccurate, insulting speech at Davos. So what?
Thats what he does. What angers me is that none of those "leaders" present showed leadership by calling him out, standing up to say "this is lies" "you're wrong" "stfu".
Until that happens Trump will Trump.

Keeley Forsyth is probably the most intense, visceral, remarkable musical artist I've seen. It's her birthday today (and mine) so check out her bleak, stirring songs.
If you're as weird as me, lying down in the dark is the best way to enter these songs.

So we decided to investigate who *does* fund Toby Young's outfit

Who funds the Free Speech Union?
Toby Young’s outfit went to court to hide its donors. Today we reveal that funders include US anti-abortion groups, Brexit politicians and Tufton Street insiders.

Reading William St Clair's Trelawny: The Incurable Romancer I get the feeling he really didn't like Trelawny but I've seen this described as the definitive biography.

It's not a bad book, there are aspects to Tre that other biographers gave less emphasis, which is interesting. 1/2
