Gonna start a thread for the turn of phrases my brain throws at me, mainly so they don't disappear. Updated as needed
The Minneapolis Millers is still the best team name in Minnesota history, and the Vikings should absolutely claim it
Much like the Packers and Steelers, every NFL team should be forced to change their name to reflect the major industry of the city.

In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

The individual cannot bargain with the State. The State recognizes no coinage but power: and it issues the coins itself.

And I've been doing politics for long enough to know clearly that the entire Senate Democratic caucus agreed to this decision to fold. Open your eyes. The 8 who "broke" did so with the complete blessing of Schumer and their colleagues. You don't have to play along because this is not a game. The end

I just walked into The Ideal Diner to hear "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" playing on classic rock radio, which is possibly the most Minnesotan thing that has happened to me ever

It's actually not swindling to tell people what they want to hear if you actually intend on doing those things. Swindling would be something like, just for example, announcing a fake Hyperloop system solely to kill California's high speed rail initiative.

The Maquis are the real heroes of Star Trek
Trek Trash Tuesday take two:

The whole post-scarcity thing is really just Earth propaganda that is used to justify the imperial heartland’s claims to the resources necessary to ensure that standard of living for its citizens, and it’s built on the hard work of people in the outlying sectors.

Frankenstein is available to stream on Netflix today, so expect a bunch of “I don’t get the big deal” takes from people uninterested in the movie who half-watched it on their phones.

Irish people are embracing the language, the music, the heritage etc. from a place of deficit forced on them by colonialism. They are reclaiming what's theirs, which is healthy & shows a maturing society, distancing itself from colonial attitudes towards native culture.

I am so proud of the work we have done on the campaign trail, and incredibly grateful for all the relationships we built along the way. Together, we set a new standard for park board campaigns and political campaigning city-wide.

jacob frey has to be so mad that he couldn’t beat Aisha. him and his people named her as their top target after the last election. they raised so much money and Aisha embarrassed the shit out of them.

soooo much money spent per vote compared to Aisha. soooo much wasted mail.
most devastating result of the night (for the campaign) is almost certainly lydia millard failing to clear 40%. that campaign raised a ton of money and was everywhere. they were so visible and fought aisha to a near-tie at the convention. in the end, they didn't come within 20%

At the risk of sounding petty, calls for Democratic unity going forward are all well and good, but let’s not forget that the reason Cuomo ran against Mamdani in the first place was a last-ditch effort by the New York Democratic Party to ratfuck their duly elected nominee.
