sorry to say it has happened to me many times. i was a northeasterner until my 30s. friends up north who've never so much as visited new orleans have to be reminded that 1) ffs, i live here and 2) so do more Black folks than live up there. it's disheartening.
this is also my general experience
Worth noting, I essentially never hear “fuck the south” from anyone, regardless of race or political affiliation, who has no connection with the south. It’s basically always from someone who left themselves, or whose family left.

never realized until #MeToo how lucky i was that all my male professors & both of my male PhD advisors were not only never inappropriate but also both treated me like i had a brain. i wish that were true for every woman. also wish it were true now of my male colleagues, but idc that much about them.
