As Regina's City Council considers across-the-board austerity, important to note that the Police Operating Budget has increased every year - from $71.6 million 10 years ago to $116.1 this year - a 62% increase. Why is the RPS immune to the calls for cuts that other city services are subject to?
Holy shit you guys. The city has released the list of cuts to services that would be required to hit Clr Dan Rashovich's proposed 5% mill rate reduction, and I am having difficulty comprehending the scale of damage Dan is making us imagine. It is like a bomb going off in the city's finances. #yqrcc

So much of our infrastructure, planning, environmental, and road safety measures seem to be based around politicians' fear of slightly inconveniencing easily-angered motorists. Pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users are barely considered in their calculations.

I'm a really slow rider and there are absolutely places in KC where I have to switch to sidewalks because people in cars will behave in very, very unsafe ways around me. there's no winning when there are no cycling lanes: i'm either slowing down traffic or i'm scaring pedestrians.
A cyclist on a sidewalk is usually a symptom of bad infrastructure.

As I often say, cyclist vs. pedestrian conflicts arise because both are fighting over the scraps of space not occupied by cars. But what if we took that space from cars to make biking, walking, and rolling safer?
my hot take as a full-time pedestrian and transit rider is that i want cities to do the absolute maximum amount to provide cyclists with safe and protected bike lanes everywhere so that i don't have to feel the least bit bad for kicking one off the sidewalk into the street

It's always in the budget. #yqrcc
“In my work with cities, one of my messages that resonates most is that the truth about the cities aspirations isn’t found in its plans and visions. It’s found in its budget.

A budget may be the most powerful public policy lever a Council has, and the most authentic one because It reveals so much.”

Federal Conservatives blame municipal "red tape" for housing soaring costs and the slow pace of development.

But it's usually the right-wing city councillors who maintain or create new obstacles to urban development. Let that sink in.
