while I’m being cranky, access journalism needs to go. When the president does his “I’m alpha because I insulted you” thing somebody needs to fall on his sword and say “what the fuck is wrong with you, old man?” on a hot mic. the hero of the wizard of Oz is Toto.

Opposing political violence requires that we condemn Charlie Kirk’s death.

Opposing political violence also requires that we condemn Charlie Kirk’s life.

Charlie Kirk spent his life encouraging his allies on the far-right to think violence was legitimate and concerns about it were fake.

Ongoing thesis, large parts of humanity cannot interact with something this near-human without just identifying it as one.
This is rooted in my long-time fascination with human anthropomorphism. We are genetically primed for this, seek it and treasure it. The machines never had to be human, at all.
current theory: LLMs exist in a cognitive uncanny valley. we are incapable of seeing them as anything other than weird humans. they get ranked up/down in our esteem the way a human would be. that they are a totally different thing, with totally different problems, is impossible to integrate
and this seems like a legitimate cognitive problem. somehow the exact niche in the cognitive uncanny valley they fall into is just impossible for us to process. nothing else has ever existed that looks anything like this before! it's a person. it's an oracle of truth? maybe it's a book. hmmm

Hulk Hogan ratted out other wrestlers attempting to unionize to save his own position and paycheck above anyone else's & gladly accepted funding from Peter Thiel for his Gawker court case that paved frequently abused legal precedents for the rich to shut down any media outlets that embarrass them.

Not so friendly reminder that Hulk Hogan's lawsuit, funded by Peter Thiel, drove Gawker Media to bankruptcy and killed multiple media outlets. This assault on journalism should not be forgiven and it certainly won't be forgotten.

Colbert will be all right, maybe even better off. The world's his oyster and I'm sure MSNBC and Netflix will come calling. He could stand up the biggest late night YouTube channel in days. But they are just torching the Late Show, an institution, solely to appease a dictator. And that fucking sucks.

The Trump administration clearly doesn’t care whether you live or die, but also I never thought I’d see the day when Republicans started telling people what they can and cannot eat.
Mehmet Oz on Medicaid: "We'll be there for you, the American people, when you need help, but you gotta stay healthy yourself ... don't eat carrot cake. Eat real food."

The actual cycle of Twitter is that it was exploited by liars and Nazis in 2016 and so the company tightened its moderation rules and then a bunch of people on the right caught up in those rules decided it was biased and that included Musk who bought it and has now automated the Nazi lies.

Here’s the bottom line for what’s going on with Grok - if the owner of the website is putting his thumb on the scale hard enough for the chatbot to turn into Goebbels, you should be deeply concerned about what he’s doing to the algorithm that you can’t so easily see, and what it’s doing to you

hey every single journalist who still uses twitter as your primary site, does the fact that the chatbot is promoting the Final Solution rise to the level of a news story or no

stop making this the global hub for news communication

Grok is being a Nazi because its creators are Nazi sympathizers and programmed Grok accordingly.

As has always been the case, X is friendly to Nazis. From the moderation team down to the AI chatbot.

The best time to leave Twitter was when Apartheid Musk bought it, the second best time is now.

Last month, Lee introduced a now-removed amendment to Trump’s policy megabill that mandated the sale of up to 3 million acres. It did little to address the challenges of building affordable housing on...

Utah is losing one of its most beloved creators today.

Pat Bagley is an institution. His cartoons are immediately recognizable, having decorated more SLC fridges & bulletin boards than I could possibly count.

All the best to Pat, who has hilariously illustrated all of my years in SLC.
In a few hours I will fly out of Salt Lake City to begin a new chapter in Portugal. One doesn’t just suddenly wake up and say “I think I’ll uproot my life and move to a foreign nation”

This has been years in the planning

It's hard to think this country wasn't taken by force when you see headlines like these
"A former F.B.I. agent who was charged with encouraging the mob that stormed the Capitol...to kill police officers has been named as an adviser to the [DOJ] task force that President Trump established to seek retribution against his political enemies."
Pardoned Jan. 6 Rioter Who Threatened Police Joins Justice Dept.
The pardoned rioter, a former F.B.I. agent who was charged with encouraging the mob that stormed the Capitol, is a counselor to Ed Martin, the director of the so-called weaponization committee.
