I’ve taught my final class in this series! What an experience. I’ve learned so much about teaching and I’m eager to continue. Couldn’t have asked for a better group of intellectually curious film fans. Deeply grateful to @thecoolidge.bsky.social for this opportunity. 🙏✨

It's about time Strange Days finally begins getting the retrospective love and respect it deserves. To me, it's the best pre-Matrix cyberpunk film other than Blade Runner and Robocop, and still better than most cyberpunk films made since.

30 years ago, Katherine Bigelow made a sci-fi flop that changed her career for the better
Strange Days is a noir-soaked science-fiction thriller set against a backdrop of racial tension, police brutality, sexual assault, and disruptive tech

This is why the inflatable costumes works so well -- it works the same way calling them "weird" or "creepy" did. It disrupts their narrative, and makes them seem pathetic rather than cool-and-cruel.
You need to see this:

Heard someone mention the movie Sneakers so I’m going to have to watch Sneakers again. One of the all time great movie casts: Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, River Phoenix, Dan Ackroyd, Sir Ben Kingsley, James Earl Jones, Howard Tobolowsky. One of the great hacker heist movies

Since it came out on this day (see last RT for context) it's worth noting that NEW NIGHTMARE only existed because Bob Shaye apologized and gave Wes retroactive pay for all the years they were milking Freddy without his involvement.

Red Rooms is a tense, evocative, subtle, and complex film that pairs well w movies like Anatomy of a Fall. Billed as horror due to events that happen offscreen, but more of a hybrid. Disturbing, dislocating, with stunning choreography and acting. (Def understand aversion to watching it, tjo.)
