No longer a grad student, but the rest remains true.
Hi. I'm a disabled educator, grad student, & organizer. I do work around supporting & celebrating disabled people & communities in schools. Connecting with disabled folks on social media brought me into community 10 years ago. With the downfall of the bird app, I'm hoping to find that again here. ❤️

the US profoundly needs a children's rights movement. children are not property... they deserve opportunity and learning and autonomy and security.... and our country just does not acknowledge this

A judge in Vermont has ordered Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk immediately released from ICE detention. Öztürk has been held in a notorious prison in Louisiana. She still faces the threat of deportation, apparently in retaliation for co-authoring a piece for her student newspaper about Gaza.

@npr.org for every minute spent talking to a non-autistic person about autistic people's needs, you should be giving at least 2x that amount to actually autistic people— & not just in written stories, but on-air.

Apply said rubric to any other group under attack right now for their lived realities.

What a shameful endorsement.

When people break the law, and their actions are righteous and appropriate, we should applaud them. When people abide by or enforce the law, and their actions are repugnant, we should condemn them. We should never pretend the law is a moral dividing line.

An autism "registry" culled from private medical records could potentially violate federal privacy laws and runs the risk of abuse.

It also harkens back to a time when disabled people were labeled, segregated, and excluded. We won't go back.
RFK Jr’s autism study collecting Americans’ private medical records
The National Institutes of Health claims it is fulfilling RFK’s promise to find cause of autism by September

In my grad union, we organized an access needs article. It included eliminating required medical documentation.

The admin rejected our proposals at every turn.

Now, RFK, Jr. wants to create a registry of Autistic people.

That required documentation makes people less safe.

Because it's #EarthDay, I'm resharing my open library Against AI and Its Environmental Harms at: pad.riseup.net/p/Against_AI...

Educators, as we consider our work and commitments to our students and their futures, how are we teaching about AI's climate impacts? How are we resisting AI hype? #EduSky

Poor reporter interviewing me about financial aid next year got an earful when they asked if I think anything can be done to stop a disaster from happening. Just me ranting "this isn't the asteroid from Armageddon, this is a self-inflicted wound and we could reverse these illegal firings any day."

It's been three months + 1 day since Elon Musk did a Nazi salute, twice, at the inauguration.

If you're still focused on pro-Palestine protestors as a threat to American Jews, then you don't really care about us.

If you're still saying that cancel culture by the left is a thing, you're full of it.

At the very least, a Secretary of Defense probably shouldn’t be an incorrigible yapper. Every middle school student only had to learn about “loose lips sink ships” ONCE to be like “it’s time to tighten up!”

I'm quite comfortable with abolishing deportations and giving every immigrant and refugee a home and food and education and a job and safety, and if you object on the basis that we don't give citizens those things, my answer is simply that we should be giving those things already.
