Audax, underbiking & velomobiles. Occasional tallbiking. Genius who brought you SPD Crocs, inventor of the Meths Martini & no longer allowed unsupervised lab access. Upsetting in an oddly lingering kind of way.
@onetwotony.bsky.social and I have our midwinter road trip booked.

Day 1: Train to Darlington. Ride to Barnard Castle, over The Stang and up to the Tan Hill Inn. From there, over Buttertubs to Hawes.

Day 2: From Hawes to Leeds, and train home.

I was approached by a lady outside the gym today while parking my bike. She was likely in her 70s. She had such great questions about the bike and then proceeded to tell me about her ebike.

She told me that she rode over 600 miles on it last year and was so proud of herself. She was so happy.

I'm 60 and the seventies were largely shite, even for a kid.
It was all strikes, rubbish cars, 3 tv channels and cold houses with ice on the inside of windows on a night.
the only good thing was far fewer cars.

I'd like to know the age of these people they asked. I just about remember power cuts. And crap cars. I am aged 54.

The decarbonisation of U.K grid electricity with renewable energy is an international success story.

It shows a low fossil fuel world is possible.

That’s why fossil fuel industry-owned politicians and think tanks are launching an unprecedented assault against it.

Language matters. Asylum seekers live in appalling conditions but the buildings are described as "hotels". Members of the Royal family live a life of luxury and privilege but their homes are often called "cottage" or "lodge". Why not just describe things accurately?

It’s easy to see why Trump wants to destroy the world’s number one news source. We can’t let him.

The BBC belongs to all of us here in the UK.

The Prime Minister and leaders from across the political spectrum should be united in telling Trump to keep his hands off it.

Ah yes. A swan bag.

Unfortunately my former boss, who had his first career as an RSPCA man isn't on here. So I can't get him to tell his hilarious story about his swan bag mishap.

100% this. In the face of racking up a £60K debt that I'd be stuck paying interest on for my whole working life, I'd have never gone to university.

Hammond is a dick.
As a person cycling you can do everything that anyone asks, and there will still be a driver that could kill you without caring.
Yes there are some silly cyclists about, but that's a distraction from the real danger. Absolute nob.

Question for @audaxuk.bsky.social followers: What do you use for planning 200+km rides? About 10 yrs ago I paid for the Komoot global maps upgrade & have been very happy with it. But since the company was sold, the app & website have been messed about with in a bad way. I’m looking for alternatives.

My unpopular opinion: those of us advocating for non-car travel need to stop apologetically saying "I know not everybody can cycle!" Obviously not everyone can cycle, but that's also true of driving. I fear we're just giving our opponents' attack lines legitimacy by shouting them out for free

Tesla have approved a $1 trillion pay package for Elon Musk. That's 20 billion times more than a nurse in the UK earns.

Don't let anyone tell you immigrants or disabled people are the problem. It's the richest 1% hoarding all the wealth.

Time to tax the super-rich properly.
