Audax, underbiking & velomobiles. Occasional tallbiking. Genius who brought you SPD Crocs, inventor of the Meths Martini & no longer allowed unsupervised lab access. Upsetting in an oddly lingering kind of way.
Yes. But this is a bit like the "I look down on him / I know my place" sketch. Except we can ALL look down on Cameron with loathing as the lickspittle milquetoast incompetent who in a bid to placate the lunatic right of the Conservative Party, gave us Brexit.
As Danny Dyer eloquently put it: TWAT.

Hmmm. I've just done the full bill of materials, and we're now at just under £60 for using welded tubes, or £80 for seamless.

Ah, yes. The "any bike is a gravel bike" logic.

Adjusting my expected pace is nice to have too. I’m not a full value Audaxer, but I’m a long way off being fast!

Things I’ll want: web browser based routing when I’m at home, and an app for when I’m out and about. Oh and an app that runs directly in GPS units (Garmin for now, but I’ve an eye on the Corus Dura), so I can sync routes without mucking around with export files.

I'd love this to be true, but this fess is very obvious BS, from someone who clearly has never seen the inside of a brewery.

I get that a lot. 😉

Don't really have the space for a welding kit. Mate Scott taught himself to TIG weld in 2019, and built his #TallBike for our LEJOG stupidity, so it can't be that hard!

I am - that part will be 3D printed with an insert that'll take an Exposure Trace R, but which I'll later swap out for a dynamo light's fixing.

A fine effort. I reckon you were about 4-5 hours faster than I could've done on that route!

I say "only" - when I started on this design, I had it in my head that they were £230, so the price difference between what I could build Vs what it'd cost to just buy one was a lot greater.
Decisions, decisions...

The diagonal lattice bracing is solid 4mm stainless, which I'll bond in place with a structural adhesive and an overwrap of carbon fibre tow. I reckon this is all going to cost around £40.
That said, I've just checked the price for an actual M*ulton one, and it's "only" £130. Do I buy or DIY??

It'll be made from 10mm stainless tubing for the main platform, with 8mm for the diagonal stays that attach to the seat post clamp. I'll bond in stainless eye terminals for the fixings, and use M6 threaded bar for the joins at the back of the platform & between the bottoms of the stays.

Ah, yes. Just so.
I'm now seeing a scene in my future:
Them (nasal, whiny voice): "Yes, yes, yes, all well and good. But not everybody can cycle those trips." [smug face]
Me: "Are you saying that *everybody* can drive them?"
Them: "That's really not the point"
Me: "SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH"
