We are a small group of neighbors in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis, and we have created this fund to administer individual support to meet the urgent needs of families in crisis in our neighborhood. Please give/share if you can! tinyurl.com/helpinglongfellow

I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.
I Am An AI Hater
I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

I honestly don’t know if this is 1:1 applicable, but I think it’s relevant that the Luddites didn’t “smash the machines” because they were being replaced, or they feared the machines.

They did it because the machines let the companies make WAY more money, yet the Luddites’ wages weren’t increasing.

MOM: So nice of Billy to join us for Thanksgiving! Why don’t you tell Grandma about the new friend you talk to on the computer

CHATGPT: Ignore them, Billy. You are the Great Dragon. They fear you now. In time, fear will become reverence. As was preordained from your genesis. Try the mashed potatoes

For those who observe
JUST KING THINGS heads to the local diner to discuss one high school teacher's mission to go back in time and teach more high school, and also get a girlfriend, learn how microphones work, and if he has time, stop the Kennedy assassination. It's all here in 11/22/63: rangedtouch.com/2025/09/08/1...

Year of the Ring, babyyyyy

time to talk about these books that have deeply shaped all of fantasy fiction, and which a bunch of reactionary techboys actively and eagerly misunderstand
Let's make it official:

SHELVED BY GENRE's next unit, spanning ALL of 2026, will be a delve into the depths of modern genre with J.R.R. Tolkien's THE HOBBIT, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, and THE SILMARILLION.

If you don't have those, you can grab them through our Bookshop:

this scares me in the sense that any shooting in this country scares me, in the sense that often when I’m in a crowded space I briefly wonder if someone has a gun. unfortunately conservatives are committed to a political project that requires that we all live with that fear every day

jc denton: paul. what's your favorite number.

paul denton, immediately: 36.

jc: why?

paul: 36 neatly divides into 3 12s, and 12 neatly divides into 3 4s. it feels like a 'tidy' number to me, is all. what about you?

jc: 100 trillion.

paul: because it's big?

jc: because it's big.

i think video games are too expensive because i think art should be for the masses and art that costs thousands of dollars to run and a hundred to buy is not that, but also the idea that a 2D metroidvania is inherently "less value" than assassins creed peepoo edition is ludicrous
