Overheard at the playground:

“I’m seeing all of these parents pull up w/ their kids on cargo bikes & thinking I should try biking here next time.”

Do not underestimate the potential inspiration & motivation you might offer simply by riding your bike.

Who cycles in Fitzroy North? 🙋🏻‍♀️

The intersection of Scotchmer and St Georges Rd is important - lots of local shops and cafes.

Yet I often have people tell me how dicey they find it on a bike and on foot.

High-quality bike parking like this at places like care homes gives people a real choice about how to visit loved ones, instead of forcing them to drive. This was a 12 min ride vs a 9 minute drive. The only thing that could improve it would be safer routes there (cc @edwardlamb.bsky.social)

It would be great if the Councillors could see beyond providing 45 car parking spaces by narrowing the bike lane, to the role that Elizabeth St plays in the local community now and in the future whenthe street is a boulevard of apartment buildings.

small urban business owners are convinced (utterly convinced) that they need - NEED - to have two parking spots outside their business to survive.

But what they actually need is footfall, which they get from more walkable streets and, yes, bike lanes.
It’s REALLY important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against downtown bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of the evidence that they are better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Bike-lanes mean business.

Melbourne e-bike POV, many gig economy riders travel into CBD & inner burbs then monitor food delivery apps for jobs so people like you can order from Uber Eats, Hungry Panda & Door Dash.

You know you live in a great area when it's easier to ride your bike to the ATM before heading out in your car to pick up a facebook marketplace item.

Mayor Brandon Scott has reduced crime in Baltimore by 62%, and now has the lowest homicide rate in Baltimore history.

How did he do it?

NOT be spending more on police. He did it by MAJOR investment in afterschool and literacy programs.

I think about this when I load 3 grandkids on my bike because I don't have a car big enough for the seats the law says I have to have. It's not a bad thing though, they really prefer the bike.

As the primary vote for independents and minor parties has continued to climb, flaws in Australia's electoral system have become more and more pronounced, @benraue.com writes.
Let’s not praise the Australian electoral system too much
The relationship between how people vote and who gets elected has become weaker and less logical. So what's the solution?

Do you think that parking should be available for people visiting Elizabeth Street by car - and did you know that there is a Care car park on 35 Elizabeth Street (access via Shelley Street) with over 100 car parking bays? The reality is that there's plenty of parking available in the area.
