Genuinely, I don't understand the liberal Protestant obsession with trying to make Christian doctrines palatable to the modern subject.

Joseph also had a bit of an issue believing in the virgin birth. The Apostles knew quite well that dead people don't rise from the tomb.

THAT'S THE POINT

On repeat this morning, a great Eucharistic hymn:

I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone

After watching a silly documentary on the TV, my opinion on Charles I has shifted from "Cromwell had a point, actually" to "he may not have been a martyr but he absolutely didn't deserve it."

I'm going to a meeting at a church in Chicago across the street from a Whole Foods, and my mom thinks I'm going to a war zone. "Do you have someone to walk with you all the time?"

Friends, I lost my amice last week, and have been forced to wear a cassock-alb until I get a new one delivered. I swear it has disrupted my entire vibe. (This is a very niche post)

"The question is," said Alice, "'whether you can make [baptism] mean so many different things."
"The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master — that's all."
I have so many issues with how the baptismal covenant has become the central feature of our understanding of baptism. It’s gotten to the point where I feel it’s mildly pelagian where the effectual working of the sacrament isn’t God’s work in grace, but our “actioning” of the covenant

One of my neighbors has been putting up these fish facts posters. All kinds of different fish, marine, freshwater, deep, shallow, all kinds. This is a good one. “Stg this real fish” took me out. Good work, neighbor.

Christian: O Come All Ye Faithful
Secular: Let It Snow
What is your favorite "Christian" Christmas song and what is your favorite "Secular" Christmas song?

I will probably always adore "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for Christian.

And "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for secular.

ESVue when?
and that is what makes it a weaker translation (in serious academic terms) than the TNIV or NRSVue — but if someone were to make a “gender inclusive ESV” I’d use it, NGL!

All of this reminds me of the times priests told me that the Canon should be whispered because it’s “pillow talk between a priest and his Eucharistic spouse” or that communion in the hand is bad because watching it for them is “like you watching another man touch your wife”

@bridgetemob.bsky.social @maddavenport.bsky.social @jrmoockjr.bsky.social looks like we might really need to reinvent Gender from first principles because whatever is happening right now has given us "women can't be lectors because Jesus talked about the Word as seed scarttered upon the ground"

so this isn't my circus, and I'm not going to tell Rome what they should do or especially how RC women should feel about it, but the logic described in this thread is just wow
It strikes me as strange that for certain people, marriage — probably the least clearly "sacramental" of the sacraments, the only sacrament not explicitly instituted by Christ — has become the lens by which every other sacrament is to be interpreted
