Barbarism is the natural state of mankind. Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And barbarism must always ultimately triumph.

What’s Scotland supposed to do? Consult Nostradamus to find out how we have another referendum?

Rachel Reeves says that even if the SNP wins a majority on its own at Holyrood the UK government will still not permit another vote.

It’s a democratic outrage

The UK again shows they've lost touch with decency and humanity when it comes to trans women as a judge declared Graham Linehan not guilty of harrassment after he harrassed a trans minor and broke her phone.

Apparently the victim didn't seem distressed enough.

More here from @alyssaur.bsky.social:
Linehan Inexplicably Cleared of Harassment, Must Pay for Broken Phone — Assigned
After repeatedly directing hundreds of thousands of rabid bigots to attack a trans minor, Graham Linehan was somehow excused of any wrongdoing. Besides breaking her phone.

The BBC today:

culturally respected but barely used by < 50s

a custodian of heritage

something people value abstractly but don’t engage with

an institution defended more by nostalgia than utility

This is institutional withering.

Younger people don’t hate the BBC

They mostly… don’t care.

The BBC

If trans people believe their lives, political experiences, or vulnerabilities are:

Omitted,

Flattened,

Stereotyped, or

Reframed to fit political narratives, then, they stop being citizen stakeholders.

They become subjects of your coverage, not participants in a national conversation.

Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

yes I don't really see how you can go "oh yikes these people have changed their political views incredibly quickly, mostly because of what Very Online people talk about on social media" and also think that people who went from never talking about gender to calling trans women predators are....normal
I don’t like subtweeting people I consider online friends, but there is a subset of people who are very worried about the ongoing radicalisation of our political elite but won’t ever acknowledge the echoes with the radicalisation of their colleagues on trans rights
And few who are sympathetic to us, some who are friendly with me on here, will ever stick their head above the parapet

So grateful to Good Law Project. I’ve had antiabortion groups trying to shut me up before. It makes me more determined to speak up but the chilling effect is real.
Strong yes. All too often the law is used as a tool by dark money funded right wing activists to silence those who push back. We employed our defamation lawyer to try and level the playing field.
Hi Jolyon, are the Good Law Project able to help when abortion rights activists get legal threats for calling out anti-abortion groups spreading disinformation?
