Norra lorra posting, mostly just sitting on the sidelines, with occasional #TheArchers interjections. She/her.
Last week I helped a lady on the train from Waterloo find her ticket (it had slipped behind her trolley and lodged in the metal bar at the back).

On Saturday I helped a different lady get to Victoria, rather than struggle with the complicated tube journey her daughter gave her as Waterloo was shut.
Please quote this with stories of your minor interactions with non-celebrities, e.g. “I once accidentally bumped into a man in the Wellingborough branch of Holland & Barrett”

What the BBC noticed a *long* time ago is that when they have left/liberals on Question Time, neither the right nor the left watch or talk about it. When they have swivel-eyed far-right goons on, the right watches and talks about it, but so very much so does the left.

A mate of mine agreed to do a well-paid corporate gig supposedly about art & diversity but really about branding. They gave him a script, he departed from it a bit, they made a video of the event and used an AI imitating his voice to speak the bit of their script he had skipped. Without asking him.
What the French-fried fuckity fuck?

I emphatically did not opt IN to this and now I have to log in and opt OUT?

When you’ve already done a thing I not only disapprove of, but that also makes literally no sense?

You can’t turn my old paper into an analogy. That’s not how papers or analogies work

Important update from two months into my “experiment” (lol) assigning college juniors and seniors to read whole physical books and then having a seminar where they use the physical book and physical notebooks and their ideas and questions to fill three hours of class time:

It rules

Reminding National Trust members not to turn into a pumpkin - please *use your vote* before the end of the month to support genuine candidates and keep the disingenuous ‘Restore’ stooges away from the Trust’s assets. Easiest way is use ‘Quick Vote’ to endorse official NT AGM recommendations.

This reminds me of Jeremy Hardy (RIP, sadly missed) and his refusal to use postcodes on letters because it put postal workers out of a job.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Under Over Over - West Hampstead

So it's taken a while, but I've finally found a location where you can clearly see London Underground trains traveling over London Overground trains.

The vantage point is at West Hampstead Overground station at the end of the platform.

Having a day of extreme cognitive dissonance today. On the one hand, I'm going to Parliament for a Westminster Hall debate in honour of Ada Lovelace Day, a thing that I created in 2009 and that I'm very proud of.

Otoh, I'm broke.

By many measures, ALD was a huge success — people picked up the...
