"life offers no prizes for being so good at deferring gratification that you accumulate a thousand uneaten marshmallows, then drop dead. At some point, you’re going to have to eat a marshmallow."

The secret to being happy in 2026? It’s far, far simpler than you think …
Stop stressing about self‑improvement or waiting until you’re on top of everything. This year give yourself permission to prioritise pleasure

Add “AI is not a person” to all newspaper style guides asap
Media is starting to report the Grok child porn story but way too many are centering the bot's "apologies" and "admissions" without explaining that these are being generated in response to user requests and are not in anyway authentic or meaningful.

I shan't be doing any retrospectives, summaries or round-ups of 2025, because it was shit, so why would I want to relive all that?

In 2026 I have one goal and one goal only, and that's to earn some fucking money. Not exactly deep, but certainly very meaningful.

I love that Ars Technica has "this is working" heading on this piece:

280 million e-bikes are slashing oil demand far more than electric vehicles
E-bikes and scooters displace 4x as much demand for oil as all of the EVs in the world.

Solensia is amazing. Grabbity is playful again, and of course, the more she plays, the stronger her muscles will get, and the less wobbly she'll be.

Oh bloody hell. Because 2025 hates me, I'm going to end the year with my iPad now refusing to charge.

*sigh*

“treating our humanity like a thought exercise makes it that much easier to legislate away.” We must do all we can to fight the “is feminism bad for women” bullshit in our politics, workplaces, and homes. (Not that I have much in my own home, given we are all feminists, thankfully, but aye…)

Bought a couple of books directly from Hachette on Sunday, and it really is amazing how antiquated their system is. Got an acknowledgement email Monday. Today I've received an invoice (paid). Wondering what the next step will be. Telling me they're considering updating their stock levels, probably.

I was a very good girl last night, apart from the bit where I went up to Copurrnicus, who was asleep tucked in between Staff’s knees, and gave him hell. I’ll admit that might have been a bit much.

OMG - f*ck AI for ruining the em-dash for writers. I use them all the time. Of course, what a shock that AI uses them since they were trained off my voice and other authors' voices.
I'm a writer who has specifically been directed *not* to use em-dashes because "they mean it was written by AI." I can detect AI writing, but it is not simply a matter of the punctuation used.
