I pointed out (elsewhere) that the Vice President was lying when he said in a speech that archaeologists used mass infant remains to identify ancient brothels (they don't) so now I have right-wing chuds emailing my university email to 'gotcha' me about the sites I mentioned by name already.

Bob's digital reconstructions of historical buildings are fantastic, and a real antidote to shoddy AI art.
Made a few improvements to my online portfolio to provide more context with my reconstruction images. I'll include more paradata with the projects I post in future. With so many now questioning image authenticity because of AI, I feel it's more important than ever to declare my sources & references.

Exactly the same thing BBC and Sky did with Renee Nicole Good. "A says X, but B says Y." Sure, but Y is on actual fkn video, so maybe just watch it.
The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

Mark Haddon's bit about his upbringing is the most quietly heartbreaking thing I've read in some time. I'm even more in awe of his writing now. To come through that and not even *sound* bitter is quite remarkable. www.theguardian.com/books/2026/j...
‘To say I was the favourite would imply I was liked’: Mark Haddon on a loveless childhood
As a bookish child with a distant father and a disapproving mother, the Curious Incident author retreated into a world of his own. Looking back, he asks what it means to lose parents who never showed ...

Counterpoint: that kind of thing doesn't play as well in Minnesota as it does elsewhere. Politicians who shove their way to the front of a protest are perceived as trying to steal the thunder of the real organizers, and Minneapolis is a city of organizers. So a lot of local pols tend to hang back.
imagine seeing these ICE protests today and you as a potential governor or senator or national democratic candidate didn't push babies out of the way to get to the front of the march

yall really bad at retail politics and seizing the moment huh

Best not to think of Labour as a political party, and more of a bunch of nomadic herders who share the same landmass, and occasionally come together for moments of peace and intermarriage in between raiding each other over blood feuds and livestock.

Which has reminded me to pick up a copy of Prof Alice Roberts' 'Domination' (Emperor Constantine taking control of Christianity) as I've been meaning to read it for ages.
Listening to Amol Rajan talking to Tom Holland on his Radical podcast - and quite surprised to hear this history of Christianity as a history of ideas - completely separate from economics and politics.

One small but notable sign of the rightward shift in UK politics in recent years is the use of “illegal migrants” for asylum seekers who arrive unofficially. It’s a dehumanising term which was popularised by the hard right and is now - as here - used repeatedly in Home Office press releases.

Really enjoyed The Rip on Netflix, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in one of those containment thrillers where a group of overconfident types suddenly realise they're trapped, against overwhelming odds and at least one of the is working for the other side.

Man, this 'EU' thing sounds great, we should totally look into it.
A note from reality: Trump says that he is imposing tariffs on 8 EU countries, but that's not doable. The EU is a single trading block and customs union. Things made in the EU are simply "made in EU." Many products such as autos or machinery are made with components from multiple EU countries.
