imagine living near a waitrose *wistful middle-class sigh*
I don’t know. Yesterday a woman in the Bloomsbury Waitrose described the one in Granary Square as “the good Waitrose” and for a moment I thought “huh, maybe David Betz is right. Maybe we will start to see civil war on the Strand”.
The idea that London has become less safe in recent years is quite strange - just look at how once "dangerous" areas have been transformed in recent years. Gentrification comes with its own issues but streets are packed with visitors and city far more welcoming than when I moved here a decade ago.

I have so many ideas for pictures at the moment and not the time to exectute them & it's honestly hilarious that AI chumps will be like "AI can generate ideas for you" bitch that is NOT the problem here

UK freelancers: what accounting software do you use and like that doesn't have AI in it? I'm ditching intuit quickbooks at the end of this tax year

Nina Power, for those that don’t know, is perhaps one of the few people alive in the UK you can openly call a Nazi without any fear of her suing you for libel, since she lost her suit and through legal discovery was revealed to be obsessed w/ Hitler. She still writes for the newspapers, though!
Whenever British journalists talk about including more GC voices on Bluesky, what they fail to account for is that many GCs would rather meet with open racists who agree with them on gender neutral toilets than with centrist liberals who don’t. This is from Maya Forstater’s review of the last year.

you'd best believe I'm leaving quickbooks at the end of this tax year in April
First CES panel. Intuit CMO Thomas Ranese is proud of his company's integration with OpenAI, which involves giving AI read/write access to tax data. Since prompt injection attacks are unavoidable, I asked him who will be liable when customer data is exposed: Intuit, OpenAI, etc?

He had no idea.

saw a birthday card today that went

"let's get this party started! (I have to be in bed by 10pm)"

& I briefly felt sad, because a 10pm bedtime is very late for me, but then happy because I get to be in bed by 8.30 most nights, snuggled and warm, and you can't mock that quality of happiness away

Guys, we did it. We invented the Commodore 64
Also neat at CES: HP’s battery-powered PC built into a keyboard. Sort of a screenless laptop.

Long shot, but does anyone know of any UK triathlon competitions that don't have exclusionary gender politics? The one I raced with two years ago seems to have fallen into line with British Triathlon.

kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

Yet another huge contract, awarded without any competitive bidding process, to Wes Streeting's favourite NHS supplier, the Hard Right US surveillance tech specialists Palantir, for military decision making capability.
Palantir lands biggest ever UK defense deal
The £240 million contract with the Ministry of Defence has renewed a debate about Britain’s dependence on American technology.
