Trapped thumb in car door I'd just hitched a ride from. Car drove off, ripping flesh in top digit. Wrapped it up with kitchen paper and duct tape and went raving for 2 days.

Got called a pillock by a nurse at Bath RUH A&E come Monday morning. Thumb was very painful for 3 months.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

😅

Quite a nice 1st day back. An academic pal reached out with something they'd asked about previously and I'd hazarded an educated guess (but caveated needed testing).

Welp, they'd totally done the legwork testing (cos Engineering) and my guess had been right and they were delighted. Nice.

This has been earworming me all day. So much so that I've ended up buying it on Bandcamp cos I love it (and previously had bought/lost a digital copy off stupid Beatport).

My earworm has mashed in Boris Karloff singing "You're a Mean One Mr Grinch" though.

Morning Fellow Lemmings.

Not as grumpy as expected, not as refreshed as anticipated.

My break was basically stress stress invasion of family followed by trying to stop a small horse dog from chewing his paws (possibly due to stress of visitors).

Still, onwards and upwards.

Outlook, outlook, burning bright,
On the laptop full of shite;
What immortal corporate jerk,
Will mark tomorrows ‘back to work?’

O what pointless mailed enquiry,
Will fuck the free bits in my diary?
On what topic will he rile me?
Will he dare to add a Smiley?

T’was the night before return to work,
And all through the dwelling,
Not much was happening,
Bar resentment a-swelling.

That wasn't long enough,
That was never two weeks?
Now I've got to be grown up,
On Teams with those freaks?

Relatedly : in every adult online safety workshop I have done, I have said mumsnet and white mummy bloggers or Instagram families should worry you as much as Roblox or Snapchat.

Mumsnet and other parenting forums, FB groups etc are hotbeds of right wing radicalisation. We did warn you all..

THREAD: I'll fact-check all the viral misinformation about the US military operation in Venezuela in this thread

This image, purporting to show the US military arresting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, is AI-generated.

According to Google's SynthID detector, it was created using Google AI.

Dirty Harry is one of my favourite reggae instrumentals. It was produced by Glen Brown and features Richard Hall and Tommy McCook on saxophones.

When playing this 7" I'm always wary of the heavy bass drop on 17 secs... 💣💥

Let's be real about life-changing tech.

GLP-1 agonists (your Ozempic, Manjaro, etc) are life-changing tech.

People see life-changing results and seek it out and pay money for it. It has caveats, but that's not my point.

My point is if genAI was this life-changing tech...see where I'm going?

Anyway, any Brit wishing to escape all the international news today can settle down with BBC2 at 3.20pm, when "The Eagle Has Landed" is showing. It's a film about a group of soldiers attempting to kidnap another country's head of state.

I'm not kidding. It really is on today.

ARCs of Jeff Noon's new novel, Moon Over Brendle, are in production.

A fantastical memoir? A ghost story? High-concept SF? Existential fantasy? A celebration of storytelling?

All of the above? Probably. Wholly Jeff Noon yet quite unlike anything else he's written? Pretty much. Amazing? Definitely

Rewatching Murderbot and the bit where they gets pissy cos they keep having to pause media when people talk to them is me with podcasts / audiobooks when I'm cooking or cleaning.

Strongly resonates.

Trying a bootie to see if he can resist chewing his foot off. Hopefully less stressful than the cone, which I've got to duct tape him into as he's broken the closing catches 😬

Ah, I take it back, they've done a few houses and then reversed up the hill and away. Probably because of all the vans parked on the narrow street. So sucks to be people not living at top of the street. 🙄
Blimey. They're outside picking up the recycling. At the top of the street. It's the new year feel good story I was hoping for.
Bristol Waste. Bristol Wastemen more like.

Yes, the rescheduled recycling day recycling wasn't collected today.

Well 2026 has already been better in that we've not had to pick up House Teenager at 5am and get their utterly eyes like saucers liability of a friend off the pavement, into the car and into their front door on the other side of Bristol like we did in 2025.

A positive portent.

Hows your head?
