Daz cooked us an amazing roast dinner to make up for what we had to eat on Christmas Day (it was not good) and we’re watching the hobbit and I have my cats. Even though I feel exhausted just sitting up to eat, I feel good being home. I am a hobbit. No adventures please.

Normally I would be birding at this time on a Sunday but I think if I tried to leave the house my body would just cease to function and crumble to dust.

Daz is off to collect the cats so soon I’m going to make my way to my recliner so they can climb on me when they get home.

1 pendant down, 11 to go! Who's up next? I want to find homes for all of these before we run out of year.
And the sale is on! 20% off everything from now to the new year.

I want to clear out the whole shop in preparation for 2026.

We are home. I am in my own bed.

Tomorrow Daz will collect the cats and normality will be resumed.

Time for rest.

A nice trip to NWT Thetford Heath this afternoon - hundreds of linnets seen, some kestrels, a few white wagtail, and a final lifer for the year - a Fieldfare. Adjacent to the Heath is an old Cold War bomb store with delightful watch towers.

I’m at the all my limbs are weak and shaky stage of exhaustion. Been in bed all afternoon but too exhausted to sleep. We’re headed home tomorrow and I am going to need a *lot* of rest to feel even remotely normal again :’(

Far from home but still managed to get some birding done :D It was cold at Lackford Lakes today, some of the water was frozen. huge numbers of bh gulls, pochard, tufted, gadwall, teal, wigeon, shoveler and shelduck. Some very camouflaged snipe, a great white egret, heron and lots of tits. #UKBirding

Merry Christmas everyone.
We’re staying in a hotel so have just had a massive full English breakfast :D

Laying in bed until we have to do family stuff, hoping there’s still room for turkey.

Motorway services are my hell. This year I finally got some loop ear plugs and I’m wearing a cap to shade the awful light in here. It’s definitely helped but it’s still way too peopley!

I had a lot of amazing bird experiences this year but I think this was my favourite
What a wonderful morning!!
This kingfisher was in the reeds for a little while and then came and posed on the perching post near the hide. First time we have seen one at Portbury Wharf and what a treat it was :D #AvonBirds #PWNR

I’m at the extremely anxious about having to be away from my cats for several days part of the Christmas season. I feel sick. The cattery people are lovely and take good care of them but leaving them makes me feel awful 😞

Our hotel has ‘overbooked’ the accessible rooms only realised the day before :/
We’re now getting a non-special room that can be reached by wheelchair :/ and free full breakfasts every morning :D :D

This year (and last year) started out with spine surgery that was supposed to change my life and didn’t work. It’s been hard!

I guess I’m going into 2026 with more acceptance of how my life is going to be from now on. I’m going to hug cats and look at birds and find ways to make art.

Molly has somehow hurt herself and can’t jump and is limping a little. I’m really hoping it’s just a sprain as she hates going to the vets so so much. Given her painkillers which has cheered her up a bit.

So dark on this solstice morning. There were a lot of redwing flying about and enjoying all the berries. Nice to see some deer by the pools. We were looking for the reported Siberian chiffchaff but it was impossible to tell for sure if it was or just a regular one. #AvonBirds #PWNR
