Some nonsense from Sky - green energy is driving up bills? How about nuclear, it just added £1bn a year to our bills. We get no energy at all for that, it’s just to fund the 10 to 15 year construction phase - and then we get the most expensive electricity we’ve ever known.

And it's not over yet.

We call on Peers to reinsert this measure into the Bill when it comes back to them.

A future where nature and people thrive together is possible. We just need the Government to listen.

Unsurprised to hear any politics that looks to address inequalities, looks to centre the poorest in our societies, anything that challenges the unsustainable status quo, dismissed as 'radical socialism'.

Political analysis/commentary is pretty poor globally but in the UK it is in the sewer.
It's not just about the messenger.

You've got to have the right message.

Bafflingly there are still people out there in the world who think being passionate about nature is “kind of weird”. or “a niche interest”. These people have it all wrong. Nature isn’t some quirky sideline to the main business. It IS the main business.

Edith Cavell, English nurse, was shot dead by a German firing squad #OTD 12 October 1915. Her death was a cause of national outrage and mourning. After the War, her body was returned home to England and buried in the cathedral close at Norwich.

Today is the 110th anniversary of the execution of British nurse Edith Cavell by a German firing squad during WWI. She was born in the village of Swardeston, Norfolk in December 1865, the daughter of the parish priest, and her name appears on the village war memorial.

I don’t know about you, but I’m still sort of processing that the US president stood up in the UN and declared that London is about to be under Sharia law, and the response has been “actually, that won’t happen” rather than “Jesus, that is insane.”

This is my new favourite analogy for mainstream parties' problem with the radical right! If you're a mainstream party, you can talk about other things! If you're the government, you can talk about *and do* other things *and* you get to set the agenda, at least to some extent, much of the time!
Imagine you're in a weird romcom where Paul Hollywood is your rival. Do you go "let's have a bread baking competition" or do you emphasise your own relative strengths?

Because that in short has been the central problem with the traditional two's approach to anti-immigration voters and Reform UK.

I’m not sure it reflects all that well on Mason that the most aggressive interview he’s managed with a politician in quite some time is in defence of his own journalism.

It’s also a fairly extraordinary attack to make in response to a fairly mild critique. Not sure his judgment on the money here.
There should be a high bar for politicians attacking the media, but maybe Ed Davey has half a point here?

For example, the first three paragraphs of this BBC story repeat Reform's £243bn figure without saying that the thinktank behind the estimate now disowns it. (This is mentioned in paragraph 35)

Ed Davey, "I'm afraid Nigel Farage should be apologising for helping cause this problem in the first place"

"Before Brexit we didn't have a small boats problem because we had 27 return agreements with EU countries and we could return people"

-Maybe we should call them Farage's Brexit Boats

The COVID enquiry and last night’s ITV documentary shone light on a dark time - when billions of pounds of public money were shovelled into the pockets of private investors rather than public institutions - wasting existing expertise, wasting money, wasting lives in the process.
A number of labs initially got in touch with PHE, Alice.
Initial response was, as expected, supportive.
However, after further comms things suddenly fell silent.
No local NHS or university labs therefore helped, apart from those with freedom/resource.

Then, May. Dysfunctional lighthouse, too late.

These people have known only peace, prosperity, safety and it has blown their minds. They hunger for dislocation.
