Unhoused folks are often able to use the address of a local shelter or non-profit in order to access ID (which is sadly necessary, for a variety of reasons). Those addresses will be local. Hotels are often much safer than shelter spaces. Room fees = less than damage deposit + first month's rent.

They were turning away people and putting up signs in Durham when we had a three-day power outage in the north side of town.

Thousands out of power in the heat of summer, and the local hotels were like “Fuck you and your money.”

I’ve literally helped hide friends at local hotels to keep them safe from dangerous situations.

And i worked with a single mom who would often get a room for just 1 night during the summer to get her kids out of their bad neighborhood so they could all eat pizza in the AC & swim in the hotel pool

In Arizona, the vast majority of hotels offer special low rates to local residents, during the summer and winter high seasons. Why go to Asheville?

And to those scoffing at the idea that homeless people stay in hotels: when shelters are full, local agencies regularly place clients in hotel rooms. Many unhoused individuals also have jobs and cycle between hotels, cars, friends' apartments, and the street.

Local hotels were a godsend when I was preparing to leave an abusive relationship and had nowhere else to go. Being turned away like this might have broken me

I still think it’s insane Trump is trying to create evidence 2020 was rigged because if you didn’t have this evidence in 2020 you’re admitting you led a coup with no evidence!

California don’t stand for this, lfg
In fact, Texas has now definitively surpassed California as the largest producer of utility-scale solar in the US

California still leads in total solar due to its much larger rooftop program, but Texas has reached 68% of California's output compared to 55% in the 12 months prior

Illinois State Senator Karina Villa sprang into action to protect her community from ICE raids, alerting neighbors to their rights and chasing off masked agents. This is how you stand up to authoritarianism. We should all be inspired by Sen. Villa's courage.

“Use this list of senators and call immediately. Every call counts!”
Here's the list of senators that MAHA wants people to call in support of RFK Jr.

Seems like the kind of list you should also call if you want to say you support vaccines.

If the Baltics+Nordics+Poland financed Ukraine's long-range weapons -- basic long-range drones, rocket-engine drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles -- AND if EU countries didn't make that support contingent on any Ukrainian restraint, then Ukraine could pummel Russia's oil+gas to victory.

It's sad that it only took 9 months to tear it all down. I thought that it was more resilient than that, but I was wrong.

If we make it out the other side, we must make this nation more robust and able to withstand these threats. We must fulfill the hopes and dreams that our forefathers gave us.

One week of intense conversations in Kyiv convinced me that Ukraine has no need for Trump any longer.
Ukraine can produce all the arms it needs, but it needs financing, which Europe can and must deliver.
Trump has swiftly ended the time of US superpower.
