Two better ways out are:
1) Peeling off 4 Senators or 8 Reps
2) Getting 3.5% of Americans protesting

A possible third is:
3) Demanding concessions when the GOP asks Dems to help recover from a Trump-caused catastrophe, like in 2008 and 2020

It is a catastrophically bad plan to say winning elections are the best way out of this, and assuming it is is part of why people spend too much time obsessing about Schumer and Jeffries.
My latest, at @msnbc.com, on the mismatch between Democratic leaders and Trump II. I get why so many D voters are furious with them and why the party brand has tanked. But the party needs them. Winning elections from now through 2028 is the only way to stop the madness. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...
Opinion | Democratic voters are furious with party leaders. And that disaffection has a cost.
The Trump era has put the Democratic Party in an unprecedented bind.

This "we'll still have normal elections in 2026/8 & the fundamentals of 🇺🇸 politics are unchanged" is the central cleavage among US political scientists today. As one far more worried that the democratic backsliing into competitive authoritarianism is well underway, I'd love to be proven wrong, but 😬

If you want a preview of what the next decade or so looks like for America, read up on what’s been happening in Israel. It’s not good.
today in Fuckery, Israeli police raided The Educational Bookshop, an iconic East Jerusalem chain of Arabic & English books on the Occupation & the history of Jerusalem -- and arrested the owners on "incitement to terrorism" grounds.

Everyone in peace/ coexistence work knows this place.

Fox ran a superbowl ad from Kanye for a website that, then and now, is selling only one thing: a white tshirt with a black swastika printed in the middle of the chest.

It hasn’t attracted much coverage or comment at all outside of progressive spaces like this. But it’s nuts.
Kanye West has gone full Nazi. Full full Nazi.

But I don't see any of the top House Democrats who obsessed over alleged antisemitic student protesters on campus - Torres, Gottheimer, Moskowitz, Goldman, Fetterman, etc - calling out Trump and the GOP for their one-time alliance with Kanye. WHY?

Let the record show that this rabbi believes that threatening to deport anyone who took part in exercising their first amendment right, regardless of their citizenship status, is absolutely, entirely, wholly bullshit.

(And also presumably illegal, but I'm sure the ACLU has those receipts.)

Best thing our allies can remember: if you stand up to Trump you intimidate him and he will back down. If you crawl to him (like his sycophantic politicians) he will not respect you and will eventually throw you under the bus.

I’m a US citizen because of birthright citizenship.

Immigrants & their kids have a special love for this country—as the home worth sacrificing everything to build. Shame on these illegal efforts to undermine our country’s values.

TY @massago.bsky.social for leading the charge to take this on!
BREAKING: President Trump thinks he can ignore the constitution and deny birthright citizenship from thousands of innocent children.

It's a cruel, egregious overstep of his authority.

We're suing to stop this unlawful plan in its tracks.

Better idea: pass a comprehensive data privacy bill that applies across the board... and maybe *DON'T* mimic Chinese authoritarianism by creating a "Great Firewall" of apps that aren't allowed to operate here.

You can actually fix things AND not abuse the 1st Amendment in one shot!
I’m concerned that Americans are flocking to a number of adversary-owned social media platforms. We still need a comprehensive and risk-based approach to assessing and mitigating the risks of foreign-owned apps.

In Florida, a 15-year-old girl was the subject of a police investigation that involved armed officers asking her teammates if they had ever seen her nude and a 500-page report detailing changes in her body weight and notes from her guidance counselor--all because she wanted to play volleyball
5. Now let's look at the relevant section of the bill. And ask yourself (a) what circumstances would trigger enforcement and (b) who would enforce?

Inaugurations aren’t history, they’re cheap theater. Much like this post.
I am seeing so many posts on social media about boycotting the inauguration. Don't you dare. Don't you dare turn your eyes away from history, even the awful, scary parts. If you don't watch it with your own eyes, you rely on others to tell you what you saw. We must all bear witness to what's coming

One of the pathologies you see in a lot of punditry/discourse is some implicit assumption that in a deep sense Democrats *should* win every election and when they don’t it shows how bad they are, or how annoying libs are of whatever. But America’s a pretty conservative place!
