Climate change is already damaging the nature, beauty and heritage we care for. Without deep and sustained cuts to emissions, nature faces an even more perilous future and the places people love will continue to suffer.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch says her party would axe legally binding targets to cut emissions.

Had yet another person knock on my door saying their stolen phone was located in my house today. 3rd in 2 months.
Is find my iPhone not that good or are the phones in the local "second hand" phone shop 50metres away?

In the five years leading up to the replacement of blue paint with segregated cycle tracks and floating bus stops 5 people were killed on CS2. In the ten years since they were constructed no cyclists had died and there have been no significant collisions between cycles and pedestrians at bus stops

Take a look at this thread. This is what the absence of decent infrastructure for cycling causes: kids end up riding on the pavement because the roads are unsafe.

Driveways open onto these pavements without adequate risk assessment, because drivers get the benefit of the presumption of right.
This was the scene locally in Hackney on Saturday. A small child was hit by a driver whilst cycling on the pavement next to a school. She sustained a serious injury.

I agree. Issuing design standards should be business as usual for ATE/DfT and not something for legislation. This bill is intended to be a step towards more integrated local transport and these changes would undermine that.

In her first speech as transport secretary, Heidi Alexander mentioned she was proud of the cycle lanes on Evelyn St & Jamaica Rd from her time as Deputy Mayor for Transport in London. Both feature bus stop bypasses as you can’t have a safe cycle network without them, a point clearly made here👇
As promised, my written evidence is now on the @cityinfinity.bsky.social website blog. It has also been acknowledged by Parliamentary support.

I hope you understand why I have unusually disabled replies.

Could you please engage with people who know about building active travel infrastructure
@meghillier.bsky.social? Banning bus stop bypasses means no continuous cycle network, thus cycling only for the brave. In a climate emergency. In an obesity crisis. Children then unable to travel independently.
I have just spent a few hours writing up some evidence for the Bus Services (No. 2) Bill which is in the Commons committee stage.

It should be boring but important stuff about running bus services with a model that suits each area.

🤔 So, just what would a car-free Sunday in the capital look like? And what kind of impact would it have on cycling?

Silvertown Tunnel is an utter embarrassment to London. London is locking-in car dependency, unlike forward thinking European cities like Paris that continue to invest in cycling infrastructure and reducing car usage.
The just-opened tunnel needs to be repurposed.

5 years ago, Hackney was at the forefront of changing streets to make cycling accessible and safer. Now, it's going backwards. @hoxtonrich.bsky.social has been calling this out but alarm bells should be ringing @hackneynorthlabour.bsky.social that there is very little confidence in delivery here 👇
I visited the site with @hackneycyclist.bsky.social, armed with my measuring wheel.

This should've either been part of a filtering scheme (which would have made the internal traffic signals redundant) or cycle tracks provided.

What is being built will make it even less safe for people cycling now.
Plenty of time room for cycle lanes bur council officers at the consultations told me cycle lanes are bad and cyclists are selfish, so more road deaths in the borough it is
March 22, 2025 at 2:15 PM
This is the outcome when @transportforlondon.bsky.social lacks ambition for walking and cycling. Until delivery of high quality schemes is prioritised, we will see more of this.
🧵 Details of the new Silvertown Tunnel Cycle Shuttle service have been confirmed by TfL.

We continue to oppose the Silvertown Tunnel and have concerns about how usable this bus service will be.

🚌 Will people want to stop, get on a bus, or keep cycling to cross the river?

Removing capacity for motor traffic has cut traffic in West London.

Now we can see (again) what increasing capacity will do in East and South East London, when Silvertown opens next month.
Hammersmith Bridge hasn't made traffic worse. Nearby bridges all showing less traffic since 2018, in new TfL data.
