Pleased @mayoroflondon.bsky.social listened to our campaign to keep #CongestionCharge discount for electric vans but 50% is still troubling for SMEs & charities given costs. Cars are the traffic issue. I spoke with @lbc.co.uk...

I wonder what is in the DfT's assessment of the causes 👀 Feels like another reason to do something about the troubling and dangerous increase in car bonnet height. Chances are big SUVs won't be mentioned at all #elephantintheroom #carspreading www.bbc.com/news/article...

Hats off to @deathcardiff.bsky.social & Cardiff cllrs for their new parking policy to charge more for the heaviest SUVs 👏

A <10 child 3x more likely to be killed by an SUV and they don't even fit in urban parking spaces - affecting us all! #carspreading

Bravo Cardiff.

“It’s only fair that those driving the biggest, heaviest and most polluting vehicles pay more for the extra space and danger they bring” - Spot on from @olord.bsky.social

Important: two-thirds (66%) of respondents to the related consultation agreed larger vehicles should pay more.

I was told of a complaint by a resident that 2.1m width restrictions are too narrow for their car! Unsurprising given new cars are getting 1cm wider every 2 years - the Volvo XC90 is 2.14m wide 🤯

Surely this age old infrastructure is needed now more than ever to end #carspreading in our cities? 🙏

I remember being told that it would take 193 years to reach legal limits for nitrogen dioxide.

I decided this was unacceptable.

Thanks to the bold policies we put in place, we've managed to do it in nine years - 184 years earlier than expected.

On Sunday, #Zürich residents voted 52.8% in favor of increasing parking fees for cars according to weight.

The owner of a BMW X2 (Diesel), which weighs 1,675 kilograms, will now pay equivalent of €717 Euros per year to park on a public street. (Before, about €321.)

Direct democracy!

To mark the 10 years since #Dieselgate, we asked our volunteers to help us show the passage of time.

The children may have grown up, but one thing remains the same: the excess #Diesel emissions in our air, which these children have been breathing their whole lives.

BEWARE of 'plug-in hybrid' electric cars 🚗💨

New @transportenvironment.org analysis shows plug-in hybrids are 5x more polluting on road than official ratings! The battery is used 27% of the time, not 84% as claimed 😬

Guess the biggest source of NOx road air pollution in central London.

Taxis? Buses? Private cars? Nope, it's now vans.

Once the biggest polluter, taxis have rapidly gone electric. Meanwhile vans fleets are only slowly being electrified.

Contrary to clear European Commission assurances, yesterday the US-EU trade pact declared an intent “to accept and provide mutual recognition to each other’s standards” for cars.

This follows tariff reductions that will cut RAM pickup prices in Europe by an average of €6,000.

UK govt moving in right direction with taxation against #carspreading! Owners of a double cab pickup truck – ie a model that carries the driver + 4 passengers – pay a lot more tax as now rightly classified as a car than commercial ✅ 🤓
