Today is International Children’s Rights Day 🌍👧👦 and we are excited to announce the launch of our new #StreetsforKids London election campaign - a collaboration with
@cleancitiescampaign.org Europe-wide Streets for Kids movement.
Who else has a camera on their cargo bike - or on a bike you carry children on?

🚲 Are they necessary?
🚲 A good idea?
🚲 Do they change drivers' behaviour?
🚲 Provoke negative reactions?
🚲 Do they make you feel safer?

We'd love to know your thoughts.

The school run and peak morning rush hour take place simultaneously.

In London, 50% of all journeys at that time - whether walking, cycling, public transport or driving - are for education.

We also know 75% of children walk or cycle to school.

But this is what our priority looks like? ⬇️

Erm.... but it IS open.

It opened up last April for pedestrians and cyclists.

Campaigners keen to keep cars off the bridge say: “It’s just much nicer, less traffic noise, less congestion, less danger.”

And car-safe repairs will cost £250m+ in repairs 🤔

Keep this in mind when people claim cars mean business — closing Central #Madrid to cars over holidays resulted in a 9.5% boost in retail spending on its main shopping street: STUDY.

There was also a 71% drop in air pollution.

Further minor improvements to the route towards Earlsfield are expected soon, but there are no safe routes to continue beyond Earlsfield. Plans for a better Garratt lane never got implemented, so my best hope is on fixing the Wandle trail

This is why driving to school should not be happening. “Park and stride” if you really must start the journey with a motor (those with mobility issues exempted)
This is why the regular engine idling from drivers at school pick up and drop off should not be happening. You might be keeping warm, but at what cost to all the other children who get the pleasure of breathing it in as they walk to school. Especially bad for young lungs. Please don't do it. 🙏

🫵 If your journey to school looks like this (bar the last two pics, on a dreamy pedestrianised stretch by Kender Primary) and you've had enough, know you're not alone.

💪 #Lewisham parents want #streetsforkids - and we're campaigning for just that.

📸 These photos show just how awful the school run in an urban environment can be.

🚲🚶🏽We asked parents in the London borough of Lewisham to share photos capturing their experiences of taking their children to school.

👀 What you see here highlights some recurring issues.

Highlighting some of the marketing messaging around the sale of oversized cars.

😢 How safe are your children if they collide with one of these?

😶 How would it affect you if you were driving it?

❗Don't believe the hype.

😱 Horrifying news: who exactly needs to be driving a "battering ram"?

😡 "How is it acceptable to have a vehicle so tall that children cannot be seen?” says @cleancitiescampaign.org Oliver Lord. They're also v v heavy, adding to their danger for pedestrians.

Number of US-style ‘battering ram’ pickup trucks on UK roads has nearly doubled in a decade

Exactly.

Very good point. They are terrifying vehicles unless you're inside one. And if a driver hits a child while driving they'll be haunted for the rest of your life. They are bad all-round.
January 27, 2026 at 2:48 PM
😱 UK ownership of US-style pick-up trucks is up 92% , say @cleancitiescampaign.org

😡 What's the problem? Longer than a WWII tank, larger than the average parking space, incredibly heavy and so high that children cannot be seen by their drivers, they aren't nicknamed "battering rams" by chance.

Wow. This is a huge piece of data.
The school run is the #1 source of school carbon emissions, outweighing heating and electricity, according to a new report from Eco Schools and @keepbritaintidy.bsky.social 💨🌿

Walking and wheeling to school reduces pollution and cuts down on chaos at the school gates - it's a win-win!

Share and speak up. We very much agree.
Insane. This would destroy most cycling in London and ruin work of the likes of @willnorman.co.uk and @london.gov.uk, whose great new cycling infrastucture would be empty. Govt and Mayor office has to intervene.
