As we inch ever closer to politicians no longer being able to plausibly pretend the bridge will reopen to cars, the time may finally soon be here for an honest conversation about more realistic solutions

At the "E-bike summit" organised by @Siobhain_Mc . Interesting to hear different perspectives, and good to hear commitment to making this great addition to Merton's transport choices work well for all.

Also! The idea of "But cars are cleaner now so there's no reason not to go all-in on them" is something I was shouting about a bloody decade ago in the Guardian www.theguardian.com/sustainable-... Back then it was Zac Goldsmith, I note. Good company to keep

Looking at the "New Met for London" police plan. There isn't a single mention of road crime, dangerous driving or traffic policing *.
Yet of all crimes, road crime is the #1 cause of harm to Londoners. (No, it's not knife crime).
Make it make sense. 1/

..yes, and the first year of Wales' default 20mph speed limit saw 100 fewer people killed or seriously injured.

As @phil-pja.bsky.social says, people who want to reverse such changes need to answer the question:

'What is an acceptable death toll that justifies getting to work two minutes faster?'
The evidence is clear - 20mph zones save lives.

In London, they’ve cut deaths and serious injuries by 34% and child fatalities by 75%.

That's why we need to see more 20mph areas.

A metholdogical paper - we nuance perspectives on congestion and its role in LTN debates, while also providing guidance on mixed methods approaches to evaluating transport policies
