Dinner, recitations, cash bar & cèilidh for an extremely good price (£35 waged/£22 unwaged).

Without a change to decent investment (rather than current stop-start funding) and long-term planning and prioritisation, any efforts towards linking-up towns and cities with active travel routes will fail. And they need to succeed.

It is so tiresome and unedifying to see sitting Labour councillors continue to attack their own administration’s traffic reduction measures, when
"We've seen clear evidence that LTNs are delivering real benefits, traffic is down by an average of 38% inside [the zones] and 2% on boundary roads”

Its London Mayor’s Questions tomorrow & I understand that Greens on the London Assembly will be asking Sadiq Khan what the delay is with ending fossil fuel advertising on the tube & buses. If you too would like to drop the Mayor a polite email on this topic, please go to www.badverts.org/fossil-ads

Is @camdencouncil.bsky.social now the council with the most #politicalWill aka cojones in all Greater London ? Perhaps with Waltham Forest as a close second ? Here in Islington we used to look up at Hackney and wish we could be more like them; now it's Camden.
Camden leads where Hackney fails.
Pembury Junction redesign should have separate cycle track. @hackneylcc.bsky.social gave indicative, fully specced designs.
Camden show (at York Way & Agar Grove junction) they know how to build-in safety, whereas Hackney wouldn't.

The fact that people are allowed to store their cars in the street is really weird - after all, a car is an individual's own private property and their responsibility. I can't think of a single other item you can store in public in this way.

This exposé is also our experience at Haggerston School, Hackney. Not enough is being done to ensure secondary school students are taught well in a safe environment without draconion punishment systems and ever-changing curriculum & standards.

The Welsh 20mph default reduced casualties by 25% and insurance costs by £90m. If done in England expect reductions of 15,000 casualties pa and insurance by £2bn pa. Implementation cost would be approx £0.5bn. For comparison, 1st yr depreciation on new cars registered in England in 2024 was £78bn

Balanced article on illegal ebikes concludes perhaps it's the "industry that exploits vulnerable people while making huge profits, and online marketplaces that sell unsafe products with no liability or retribution" who need targeting rather than Deliveroo drivers.

Britain’s illegal e-bike boom: desperation, delivery drivers – and unthinkable danger
E-bikes can legally travel at 15.5mph. But the fastest the police have seized was capable of 70mph. What will stop the rise of these souped-up and potentially fatal vehicles?

Consultation to support: the Dalston LN scheme would substantially improve walking & cycling.
But, the proposed filters would leave a route open for through-traffic from Cecilla Rd to Montague Rd, and the scheme should be adjusted to address this.

Recommendations for panniers!
We bought two sets of Ortlieb panniers 6 years ago expecting them to last a lifetime, they claim they're "built to endure". Not so. One set has the same manufacturing fault of torn seams that Ortlieb says are "unrepairable".
Let me know of better manufacturers please!

Notes from good, welcoming public realm in French towns;
1. Colour the separated cycle track surface
2. Introduce fun images (superhero cyclist)
3. Prioritise people walking/cycling at junctions & lights. Zebra crossings on side-streets.
4. Create outside third spaces -> picnic tables for 20+ people

I can't get over the amount of high-quality cycling infrastructure in towns outside Paris!
We cycled in Orléans, Blois, Saumur, Tours, Caen & found separated cycle track/cycle priority, low/no motor vehicle city centres & ongoing improvements for cycling including Dutch roundabouts.
