Compare Camden's safe cycling junction proposal, with separate cycle track and cycle-only lights, to Hackney's woeful design: a few seconds of advanced lights (for only some arms of the junction) and periodic paint on the road!!
This will NOT keep cyclists safe. 😨

Fully support this! Great to see...

Meanwhile right now in Hackney, our council has spades in the ground to create a few seconds of advanced lights (for only some arms of the junction) and periodic paint on the road as though this is an appropriate way to keep cyclists safe. 😨

Exciting news 🤗 Camden could get it's first 'cyclops' (Dutch style junction)

Such innovation for cycle safety will be hard won though, so do please take time to express your support in the survey:

We are soon to be advocating for cycling outside of London... but hope & plan to make it back for Burns Night!

It really is beyond a joke when people responsible for our collective safety, fail so badly at understanding active travel provision.

One lane of vans stuck in traffic.

One lane of cargo bikes flowing freely.

This photo powerfully shows the potential of cargo bikes in our cities.

A large part of the loss of kids' freedom to play is due to car-priority infrastructure. Car storage, speed & amount on residential streets impede spontaneous play where kids live, & also impacts physical/mental health. Create people (not car-) centric planning & you address childhood right to play.

On our trip to France this summer we told our pre-teen & teen kids to cycle ahead of us and wait where they wanted.
We get back to Newhaven & the cycling provision to Brighton is so comparatively worse... some basic shared pavement but when not provided we still rode on the pavement for our safety.

Yes, this ☝🏻
The issue is that this language is not being used as standard so confusion ensues. Also, it's not easy (as the article mentions) to tell if it's a legal ecycle or if it's an illegal electric motorbike that looks almost the same as a cycle.

Is there an equivalent for sneak driving rather than taking the bicycle? (Especially for short journeys)... There should be shame associated with that too.

Also, you can't book more than one cycle per booking (family of five) using their website in 2025, you have to call them. The cost initially (before a complaint) for cycles+passengers was MORE than taking a car (which obvs takes more space, is heavier and pollutes). It's insane.

That is a wonderful photo.
