This is an important and heartfelt letter. Unfortunately there has been a real blindspot among some people on the British and European left. We should oppose imperialism and fascism, wherever they occur.

Some notable things in what's being called the "Trump peace plan" but which could not have been more clearly written in Moscow if it came with a 2 for 1 deal on tickets to the Bolshoi Ballet. 🧵

Who's going to buy US weapons in future when it's clear Donald & GOP will cut you off if your invader bribes them as part of a "peace plan".

"Because of other countries testing programs" President Trump ordered the Pentagon "to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis". Normally, testing nuclear weapons refers to explosive testing of a nuclear weapon, something the US has not done at full scale since 1992.

Americans might be interested to see where actual constitutional monarchies rank on global Democracy and Freedom Indexes (Economist, Freedom House). Monarchies in blue, US red, other republics white. 2 lists ordered for democracy, freedom.

Very good stuff from Sadiq Khan at the Labour Irish society event. He said there are two reasons he loves coming to Labour Conference.

“One is the reception at the Labour Party Irish Society reception.

Strange that it should be a revelation. It was simply an extension via secret protocol of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, which was always notorious for carving up Eastern Europe.
When I taught my Holocaust history course a few years ago at the University of Virginia, this document sparked one of our most interesting class discussions. It was a revelation (and puzzle) to many students, but that led to a deeper awareness of the underlying cynicism of both regimes.
Exactly 86 years ago, the arguably worst agreement in human history was signed - a friendship treaty between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Most people do not know about this second Hitler Stalin Pact, perhaps, because the Kremlin does not want them to know.
