I think I’ve seen that before.

Well clearly it was more Russian speaking as first language than other areas before 2022, but that’s irrelevant. See attached map of Irish speaking in Ireland. But map doesn’t include Donbas but does include occupied Kherson, Zaporizhzia, etc which doesn’t seem right.

You don’t have to be a royalist to appreciate that America looks anachronistic and even ignorant to make a big deal over monarchy today.
October 20, 2025 at 4:34 AM
But Paine’s arguments r now anachronistic given the evolution of constitutional monarchy since. Even then, King George was only a secondary figure in British policy. No Kings resonates in the US, but looks a bit off outside given 10 of the top 17 on Democracy Index are constitutional monarchies.

No many of them said No Tyrants because having a constitutional monarchy isn’t incompatible with democracy. In fact, 10 of the top 17 countries on the Democracy Index have kings. Way ahead of the U.S. on last year’s rankings. Even if some of us would prefer republics, it’s a minor issue.

The young have great wisdom…sometimes.
October 19, 2025 at 12:04 PM
So kings are incompatible with constitutions say the placards? And yet the top 3 ranked countries on the Economist Democracy Index and 10 of the top 17 have both kings and constitutions. Go figure! (Ok, Luxembourg has a Grand Duke)
October 19, 2025 at 11:40 AM
No Kings has great resonance as a slogan in America, fair enough. But it also reeks of a certain ignorance or lack of interest in the outside world. The top 3 countries on the Economist Democracy Index and 10 of the top 17 are constitutional monarchies. Similar for the Freedom in the World index.

The funny thing about the Declaration of Independence is that it is written as if the King was actually running things in Britain rather than being a secondary if not entirely inconsequential figure. Americans still haven’t caught up with the evolution of constitutional monarchy.
October 19, 2025 at 11:12 AM
So you think that Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands , Belgium, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Japan and the UK are terrible despotisms because they have monarchs?
October 19, 2025 at 10:15 AM
Yes imagine having a tyrant like King Harald of Norway or Frederick of Denmark as your head of state!

Is that what you think modern kings in Western countries do?
October 18, 2025 at 12:45 PM
It’s because Western constitutional monarchies rank as well or better than republics on democracy and freedom indexes and way better than US . (Also social mobility and gender equality.) Monarchies in blue on attached lists of global index rankings. This was 2024 , before Trump
October 18, 2025 at 7:32 AM
Because Western monarchies today are just as democratic as republics or even more so. In blue in attached global democracy and freedom rankings. US is stuck on cliches about George III, who himself wasn’t in charge.
October 18, 2025 at 6:09 AM
No Tyrants? Because it’s more accurate? Monarchies in blue on attached rankings of Global Democracy Index and Freedom in the World Index.
October 18, 2025 at 6:00 AM
I suggest this one
October 18, 2025 at 5:08 AM
This has to be the one
October 17, 2025 at 10:45 AM
Are the constitutional monarchies calling it No Kings too? They actually have as good or better rankings in global democracy and freedom indexes as republics. Monarchies in blue here.
October 17, 2025 at 10:33 AM
Americans might be interested to see where actual constitutional monarchies rank on global Democracy and Freedom Indexes (Economist, Freedom House). Monarchies in blue, US red, other republics white. 2 lists ordered for democracy, freedom.
October 17, 2025 at 4:48 AM
Not suggesting you should change the No Kings slogan, but Americans might be interested to see where actual constitutional monarchies rank on global Democracy and Freedom Indexes (Economist, Freedom House). Monarchies in blue, US red, other republics white. 2 lists ordered for democracy, freedom.
