I learned today Welsh wrestler Adrian Street aka Exotic beat the ever living stuffing out of Jimmy Savile one time and later said “Had I known then what I know about him now, I’d have given him an even bigger hiding.” I guess some heroes do wear capes

Really good thread that feels helpful in understanding both the practical an emotional effect of being let down by the two Anglo-American political parties that are supposed to be something of a counterweight to the far right lurch we are living in.
One thing I think has occurred to me since my earlier post is that the problem most of us on the left are feeling right now is *powerlessness*. The right are entrenching themselves. They’re visible AF. They have all the media. They frame every debate.

This article nails it completely and should also represent the path forward for Labour in the UK. The PPE scandal is a great place to start and Farage’s endless side-hustles should be called out for what they are: bribes. data4democracy.substack.com/p/the-democr...
The Democrats' Path Forward: Become the Anti-Corruption Party
But to reform the system they first need to reform the Democratic Party.

My course about birding & creative code is also secretly (shhhh) a course about critical data thinking.

Which is one of the most important skills you could possibly cultivate in this age of AI and misinformation.

Insane that UK Business Secretary Peter Kyle claims that a far-right rally organised by the founder of a violent fascist gang symbolises “free speech is alive and well” when he’s part of a government that arrested hundreds of people as terrorists for writing two words onto pieces of paper.

I personally confirmed every single citation in @sarahkendzior.bsky.social's Hiding In Plain Sight while making this website, to confirm her retelling of Trump's history was accurate and reported. It will be one of the first books banned by Congress once we get to that point. Buy it NOW.

Trump rants that Obama staged a coup.

Wrong person. Wrong timeline.

The person staging a coup right now is Vance.

We are watching him, with help from Murdoch and others, use the Epstein thing to get Trump out so he can claim to be “clean” while holding on to the whole Project2025 agenda.

The only way to find a set of idioms more hackneyed, clichéd and devoid of meaning than "woke" and "virtue signalling" would be to open up a book of Oasis lyrics.

First rate snark in this Guardian article calling out despicable murderer Netanyahu comparing the postponement of his son’s wedding to the suffering of the 43,000 people killed in the Blitz. (Though to be fair it’s the *second* postponement so I see his point)

This talk (or the transcript at least) is excellent and also inspiring. The author appears to be GenX-ish but I feel like their message will resonate with the GenZ crew who strike me as a quirky and creative bunch. If we can get them to be creative on personal websites instead of platforms we win.
Hey everyone. My friend @sachajudd.com gave a talk on how you can still get The Good Internet. We can get it back! It's there, and we can make more!

Musk perpetuates the Thatcherite myth that public sector workers are all lazy cynics, pretending to work while collecting cushy salaries. In truth they’re often so committed & passionate about their work that they endure grim conditions and curtailed budgets because they believe in a better society

Really excellent thread here on how badly Democrats miss an open goal on comms through fear of being labelled socialist.

Pisses me off to see the same in UK Labour Party. There has never been a clearer appetite for socialist policies than right now and parties are too scared to make the case.
Democrats stop being terrified of being called a socialist challenge.

They’re going to call you one regardless. When they do say “Yes, that’s right, unlike Republicans I think American society should be defended and nurtured, not demolished by bigots and sold by billionaires and bosses.”
Every elected Democrat will acknowledge that the GOP has held an overwhelming media advantage since at least Obama. Somehow they fail to make the connection that everyone who's weathered a competitive election was *successfully* painted as trans Stalin gay married to Pelosi, and they won anyway
