Critics argue that the ECHR stops us from being able to deport illegal migrants. In reality, in 75 years the ECHR has only ruled against the UK in 13 cases out of 500k: 0.000026%. The ECHR is being used a scapegoat for domestic challenges, and we must defend it.
Starmer urges European leaders to reform human rights laws to tackle immigration
The ECHR is seen by its critics as a major barrier to attempts to deport illegal migrants from the country.

The ECHR was set up after WWII to ensure that fascism never again arose in Europe. Why do the right want to curb/limit/leave/abolish the ECHR? Because it does what it was intended to do, that's why...
How many times do we need to point this out?
By appeasing the far right, you do not weaken it. You strengthen it.
While weakening your own position.
There's a vast amount of academic research showing this.
But Labour will not listen.

I spoke in Parliament today to challenge the misinformation from those claiming this tribunal as a 'win' for the anti-trans agenda.

In fact it found Ms Peggie harassed a colleague for being trans, and it dismissed almost all her claims.

It also found that trans segregation is not supported in law.
We've written & published a short summary statement regarding the Sandie Peggie V NHS Fife Health Board employment tribunal case & the judgment given yesterday. Much of the media coverage has missed key information, the most important aspect being that all claims against Dr Beth Upton were dismissed

Absolutely awesome. Makes my gay coming-out seem mundane, but the parallels are striking. I completely fail to understand why some gay & lesbian folk don't support our trans brothers and sisters, we're all in this together.

Anti-trans political rhetoric and policies is spreading, and that includes Labour. It doesn't protect anyone. It embeds bigoted and misogynistic ideas, and causes division and hostility. The only people anti-trans ideology benefits in the end is the far right.

A range of companies purport to support Pride - but continue to advertise on GB News, a channel which happily devotes significant levels of airtime to homophobic and transphobic views.
This is not LGBTQ+ allyship.
Call them out.

Pride isn’t a marketing moment.

Some firms who have supported Pride are advertising on GB News – a rightwing TV channel known for pumping out hatred of LGBTQ+ people.

We’ve teamed up with Stop Funding Hate to get these companies to pull their ads.

This is so true. As a Liberal Democrat I am sick of my party professing solidarity with trans people and then selecting anti-trans activists and people deliberately misgendering Olympic athletes as candidates in elections.
If as a politician you are complaining about Pride banning political parties I would strongly suggest you look within yourselves as to why this decision has had to be made, the rampant, and unrepentant, attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community for starters, before criticising those who have made it.

Another appalling example of Labour's capitulation to the right. Will they every wake up? It's not 'woke' to support nature.

Well it's a start but disappointing that the party allows anti-trans activists who do not agree with the party's LGBTQIA+ policies to be selected to run as party candidates.
I am increasingly disappointed that the concerns of the #LGBTQ+ community over what the Supreme Court judgement means for them are not yet being addressed. I have written to the Government asking them to make clear how trans and non binary rights will be protected.

Good to see that there is at least one principled MP in parliament.
Solidarity with trans women after today’s Supreme Court ruling.

The rollback of LGBT rights — especially trans rights — is global, bankrolled by billionaires and the far-right.

Trans rights are human rights. We must defend the Equality Act and its protections for trans people.

Spoke on BBC 5 Live this morning about Labour's policy of denying citizenship to refugees based on manner of entry. Long and short of it is that it will have no impact on channel crossings, it will violate international law, and it will leave people seeking safety in limbo and facing more fear.

When we need a fragile truce in Gaza to hold, Trump’s dangerous ramblings about displacing 1.8 million people only make things worse.

At PMQs, I told Keir Starmer he must be clear: these proposals must be rejected, and we must continue to support a two-state solution.

The UK needs to lead in Europe again. We can't rely on Trump, and Labour hasn't shown the urgency or ambition to fix our relationship with our closest neighbours.

A UK-EU customs union is the first step repairing that relationship.

Oops. Not good.

Of course, Labour trotted out the hoary old "the Tories left us no money" line again.

But running a huge national economy isn't like trying to balance your personal finances. Money can always be found for the right things - and should be.
