Statement from us on today's ruling:

"As LGBT+ Liberal Democrats... we don't think Britain is the sort of country where people should have to show their 'papers, please' in order to use the loo. ...we do not support efforts to legislate in ignorance to enforce conformity."

In the meantime, over a hundred thousand people are living with HIV in the UK still, and thousands are thought to be infected but unaware.

We have work to do to achieve the world we know is possible - thank you to everyone helping us get there. (2/2)

Today is World AIDS Day. We have come a long way since the horrors of the 1980s, which triggered a wave of homophobia which has its echoes today.

HIV is now routinely treatable and for the first time there is the prospect of a world without AIDS too. (1/2)

Thank you to @mariecgoldman.bsky.social, @cajardinemp.bsky.social, @lizbarkerlords.bsky.social and other @libdems.org.uk MPs and Peers who have been working with the APPG on this. It's vital to keep up work on this, particularly now an end to AIDS is possible.
In 2023, nearly 108,000 people received HIV care in the UK, showing progress. This World AIDS Day, we’re reminded there’s more to do as around 5,000 people remain undiagnosed. Recently, I met with the APPG on HIV, AIDS and Sexual Health to discuss raising awareness and expanding prevention.

Thank you for this, @mariecgoldman.bsky.social, and to the dozens of @libdems.org.uk MPs who have already signed her letter. We've been hearing distressing accounts of this sort of exclusion happening already.

The EHRC guidance needs to be rejected and rewritten if it's not good enough.
Imagine being turned away from a bathroom, hospital, or cinema for β€œnot looking female enough”. The leaked EHRC guidance could do just that. Along with my Lib Dem colleagues, I’ve written to the Minister calling for new, inclusive, practical guidance that protects everyone’s rights.

Thank you, @joshbabarinde.bsky.social for pressing the government on today's appalling leaked EHRC proposals. It is both sickening and predictable that they should leak on Transgender Day of Remembrance. Thank you for committing the @libdems.org.uk to standing up for our rights.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. It hits particularly hard this year - a powerful reminder of why we fight, and a moment to reflect on those no longer with us.

May they rest in power.

....that should have been spent on campaigning.

We continue to advocate for changing the law to reverse the effects of the FWS decision. We are also working across the party to develop constitutional proposals to bring back suspended quotas, esp. the LGBT+ quota, to the fullest extent possible.

We are disappointed that, due to legal pressure from transphobic campaign groups following the For Woman Scotland decision, two eminently reasonable quotas in our party's election regulations have been suspended. These suspensions are profoundly anti-queer, anti-trans and anti-feminist...

Thank you as well to @joshbabarinde.bsky.social and to @mariecgoldman.bsky.social for addressing our AGM so well today. 🧑
Just finished my last AGM as Co-Chair of @pluslibdems.bsky.social. It's been brilliant to work with @lukeallanld.bsky.social and I'm looking forward to handing over to Lucas North who'll be taking over in January.

Today is Intersex Solidarity Day.

Intersex people are a distinct and uniquely vulnerable minority who face specific issues in life.

Lib Dem policy, as passed this Spring Conference, calls for a ban on medically unnecessary, non-consensual treatments or surgeries for intersex infants and children.

The RO has no authority to rewrite the Constitution of the party. It is now vital that all @libdems.org.uk members, not just trans ones, revoke the party's right to use their sex-assigned-at-birth data, which they can do easily here:
