I don't understand the excitement and support for sports gambling. These companies only exist to steal your money. Much like billionaires, DraftKings and all these other companies aren't your friends. Earl Weaver had it right.

Hard, fast rule from a veteran police reporter: Excepting anyone engaged in infiltrating a criminal conspiracy in an undercover capacity, any law officer who hides his identity from the public is a shitheel is doing vile shit and is, in fact, actively destroying the credibility of law enforcement.
This really hasn’t gotten enough attention this week.

On the myth of momentum and more baseball wisdom from Earl Weaver.
Momentum is Tomorrow's Starting Pitcher
That's not exactly how Earl said it, but we dive into his words, Dave Roberts' bizarre Blake Treinen fixation, and where the World Series goes next (no idea).

The supreme rule in the Catholic Church is love, which compels all of the faithful to serve, not to judge, exclude or dominate others, Pope Leo XIV said.
Catholics must build a more humble church, seeking truth together, pope says
"We must dream of and build a more humble church," Pope Leo XIV said in his homily during a Mass in St. Peter's Basilica Oct. 26. The Mass marked the closing of the Oct. 24-26 Jubilee of Synodal Teams...

Silencing dissent is now second nature to this administration. We have fully abandoned the premise of allowing public argument and debate and are instead entrenched in rote fascism. The thought police are entirely empowered, and they treat us no longer as citizens of a republic,
but as sheep.

17000 days ago (April 6, 1979), legendary manager Earl Weaver picks up the 1000th win of his career as the Orioles beat the White Sox 5-3 on Opening Day.

Before the game, the O’s new mascot The Bird is hatched from an egg. I’m sure Earl had a four-letter word or three ready to go.

Max Scherzer's insistence on staying in last night's playoff game recalls the I'm-not-coming-out moment that can never be equaled: Jack Morris, in the late innings of Game 7 of the '91 World Series, telling manager Tom Kelly to go sit down and then completing a 10-inning shutout and walk-off win.

May dad grew up in Dearborn Michigan when it was run by a corrupt segregationist who literally sent the police to harass and drive out Black and Jewish families if they tried to move in. He was in change as late as the mid 1970s. Guessing Walsh would’ve had no problem with that.

48 years ago today, Orioles manager Earl Weaver forfeited a game against the Blue Jays at Exhibition Stadium in protest of tarps spread over the bullpen mounds that he felt presented a safety issue for his players.

It's the only deliberate forfeit by an MLB team since 1914.

Reading much tonight on Charlie Kirk, who he was, what he said and believed -- from both admirers and those deeply opposed. It does not matter. None of it. What matters is that political violence made routine against any voice, left or right, marks us as a failing, dying republic.
This is horror.
