Since I was 18, I’ve been a registered Democrat, including serving as a voting member of my county party, and on the @CA_Dem executive board for 1-term. Today, I re-registered to vote as an Independent. Throwing @RepAlGreen under the bus turned out to be my last straw.
Will any presidential candidate lead with the right to own our own data in perpetuity?

God I am listening to @aoc.bsky.social unapologetically celebrating cities -- urbanity, diversity, creativity, decency -- and it is giving me life.

Nothing but respect for *my* president.

At this point I think it’s fair to say that most of the criticisms being lobbed at Mamdani are not out of genuine anger or surprise at any new revelations about him but are rather a transparently bad faith smear campaign to punish him for being a successful politician while Muslim

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

I'm going to do the same damn thing in the US Senate.

Yglesias already knows how he's going to argue he's right, regardless of outcome.

PLATNER WINS: "See? Voters don't care about woke stuff."
PLATNER LOSES: "You should have nominated a moderate."
MILLS WINS: "Good thing we nominated a moderate."
MILLS LOSES: "Imagine how bad Platner would have done."
Matt says that he wants Platner because he honestly wants to run the natural experiment and end the forever "moderate, or not?" debate.

Basically, he wants Platner to get the nomination and lose to Collins, so he wins.

I get that we might all be little kids wanting our celebrity crushes (actors, politicans, singers, athletes) to pretend to love us, but at least with politicians, can we demand some flowers and maybe healthcare for the right to fuck us in the ass?

I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

@jenka.bsky.social I just read your recent posts. George LaKoff was explaining messaging to Dems from the Don’t Think of an Elephant frame over twenty years ago. They could do better imo, but have chosen not to.

This is all the well-off sports playing college aged sons of a couple of people I work with.

Trump was edgy and cool and that’s about the depth of the thinking. The bad stuff never factored in.
e.g. if you're a young dude immersed in certain social circles there is a decided sense that Trump is the cool candidate and cool guys support Trump, and only weird woke libs would vote for Harris or Democratic. especially if you're less attentive to politics this social dynamic is determinative

Rare for a public poll, we did a survey experiment to test whether priming respondents about the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia impacts support for Trump's broader immigration agenda. It does. Support for blanket deportations fell 20 points after hearing about Garcia's case.

This is, to me, one of the strongest pieces of evidence of how the internet and social media is cooking our brains: the way the information firehose makes a lot of people feel that things that were shocking, even a couple of years ago, are now ancient history, a distant era that we’ve moved beyond.
Two years ago the Atlantic was plainly calling Richard Hanania a white supremacist, and this week one of their reporters (not Tyler!) is on his little podcast. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Brad Karp in a firm-wide email to Paul Weiss employees today:

“We will continue our proud, century-long legacy of courageously standing up for fundamental rights and liberties…That commitment is woven into our DNA; it was and will never be subject to negotiation or compromise.”

Oh, the irony.
