All right, I’ve seen enough. The presidential pardon power has always seemed incompatible with government that derives its authority from the consent of the governed.

It’s obviously past time to eliminate it.

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

With proper credit to the great and irreplaceable Garry Trudeau.
Yet another spot on commentary of the absurd time in which we find ourselves.

Dear @schumer.senate.gov:

Dude…no. I mean…c’mon. Read the room, man. Don’t make me write something unkind about you. Because I’ll do it, man. I am good at newspaper-appropriate insults. Stand strong. This matters.

Any deal that does not include an extension of #ACA subsidies should be a nonstarter for Dems—

But at least 10 Senate #Dems are expected to support a procedural motion to end shutdown

I’m no lawyer, but this sounds like that “contempt of court” thing.

But when you’re a GOPer, entitled contempt of everyone and everything is your whole MO, so the court just blends in with the rest of what you shit on.

JD Vance said, “We’re not going to do it under the orders of a federal judge”

That was Vance’s response to a judge’s order to disburse SNAP payments in full immediately

The law prohibits his defiance but tell me please, will the judge have Vance arrested

I find it highly doubtful

The Chicago area has an endless supply of suburban moms and dads, and we've all had to sit through late-season soccer games while it's sleeting. Getting arrested protesting barbarity is a cakewalk by comparison. (Massive kudos to these moms.)

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

The LLM thing is remarkable because if anyone was like "I never went to medical school anyway here's my magic anti disease device pls give 100 billion" they'd be laughed out the room or beaten with sticks but we're supposed to let guys who never read a book hand us an app claiming it'll write them

We need for more Americans to get the opportunity to go skiing, so that we have a larger group that understands why “out over one’s skis” is really bad, and is a portent of doom.

This morning, in Broadview, 14 suburban women were arrested during an act of civil disobedience calling for an end to ICE/CBP’s kidnappings throughout the Chicago area.

“We want to encourage other people who feel strongly about ICE’s actions to step off the sidelines and take our cities back.”

WTAF is wrong with all these right-wing/“conservative”/GOPer/MAGA weirdos and their obsession with industrial-scale production of white children?

What a surprise: invest in better infrastructure and people will show up and use it. Every dollar spent on rail expansion and improvement reduces traffic, reduces road wear and improves everyone's commutes. #masstransit and #trains are mandatory for America's prosperity.

Also of broader note: Leo says "many people who have lived for years and years not causing problems have been deeply affected by what's going on right now."

That appears to be a reference to the large number of immigrants detained in the U.S. who have no criminal record.
Oh — the situation has escalated.

Pope Leo has spoken out: says "spiritual rights" of detainees should be respected and calls on the "authorities" to allow "pastoral workers" in.
