So just found out that Audible have silently removed six audiobooks from my library. Because I noticed, and complained, they gave six credits to buy them back again. They did this because the publishers updated the books and Audible just deleted the old versions.

ICE has shot and killed a community observer in Minneapolis.

Sending all of my love to the people of Minneapolis and the folks defending their neighbors there. This is heinous, and I am so sorry.

To everyone else: REMEMBER ICE LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING. THIS IS DOCUMENTED.
ICE reportedly shot someone at Portland and 33/34. Mspt saying bullets, could be less lethal 20+ agents on site, MPD and ambulances responding. Helicopters overhead

There is video of the shooting of a woman by ICE in Minneapolis circulating that shows an ICE agent repeatedly shooting her at point blank range while she tries to drive off. There was no obvious threat to any ICE agent.

one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it

I'm not entirely sure (given my disastrous reach on my socials) that anyone would be fussed, buuuuut.

I'm setting up a little store with a small selection of writerly stuff to attempt to support my family while I write.
Have a look if you'd like ? ^_^

[Cringe post incoming but I'm living for it]

Hah. I will not take this as an omen, instead, it is my instruction.

I will BE mortifying, I'll defy anyone who wishes less of or for me. I'll succeed, and scare the hell out of anyone who said I couldn't be more than I am.

Be mortifying, my friends.

Well, the first metaphorical paragraph of the year has been written. A whole day of whatever you needed to do.

Whatever your plans, your dreams, etc. I hope from the bottom of my heart that you all get everything you need this year.

Live it, and please be excellent to each other.

My wife took this shot from the rear window of our apartment. The sunset flooded the room in gorgeous orange and gold light that made the weight of the outside world melt away from round my shoulders.

Sometimes it's nice to be reminded of how small we are, and how pretty the world can be.

The “AI” has not read the book.

Even if the book
was in its training data,
it has just absorbed it
as a set

It will juggle you a “summary”

or might not
relate to the conclusions
of the actual text.

The only way
you’ll know
is to read it
yourself.

This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:

This is specifically about AI use in humanities disciplines within academia, which is clear from context- this crap is extremely harmful in that setting. Inevitably, people show up to be like "AI finds cancer cells tho".

NOT THE SUBJECT, and that conflation has been inflicted upon us intentionally.
You absolutely will not convince a bunch of historians and sociologists and whoever else is in this thread that you know more than we do about this and we should use it. I wish you AI enthusiasts would stop wading into our conversations. You have nothing helpful to contribute and are snarky.

My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

Just confirming my stance on AI now that I've done more reading.

AI itself is a shell game, a computational tool being used to commodify existence itself rather than for the common good I.e. scientific or medical.

Gen AI? Used in the creative space? A scourge that should be wiped from existence.
