The most important thing is not to fall for people hand waving about how AI will definitely help to fix climate change so we should develop it as fast as possible. Honestly, nobody knows. It could help a lot. It could also hinder solutions.

One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:
One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing
And then you'll say. Wait a second.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.
The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.
The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.
Why?
It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

We are literally mad about your failure to fight the real dangers.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."
The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.
And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.

I think it's a bad deal.
Maybe I'm wrong but I do know this: anyone who thought this is a good idea will not think adding states, removing the filibuster, restructuring the SC, and doing all the things to unfuck oligopoly and fascism required is right or possible.
So they need to go.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but you do not keep the government shut for more than a month and then NOT get a deal on the main item you have been messaging on without completely shifting the blame dynamic.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:
—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

The only political accomplishment out of this for Dems is that when health insurance skyrockets for 22 million Americans in 42 days, it will be clear to even low information voters that Republicans are the ones responsible. Whether that makes all this worth it remains to be seen.

What is the origin & evidence for the idea that if one country does not export fossil fuels, demand will be met by another? What is the incentive, then, for a country to reduce exports & what is this unique feature of international markets? How come the argument isn't made for domestic supplies?

good statement; caving on the heels of a bunch of odd-year electoral victories, in particular, is baffling
This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.
