“I think the meaning of life is to keep the remarkable game of being human going forward. In the past, this meant reproducing, above all. But, now, it means, above all, preserving the board on which we play this game.”

What is the meaning of life? 15 possible answers – from a palliative care doctor, a Holocaust survivor, a jail inmate and more
I asked some well-known names for their thoughts on the ultimate existential question. Their answers were fascinating, funny – and could help us frame our days on Earth

The world is moving on.
A gift! :)

"Some 27.3% of all passenger vehicle sales worldwide in the September quarter came with a plug, according to BloombergNEF.

If you think the EV revolution is losing speed, it’s probably just a sign that your own domestic market is getting left behind."

The Positive Climate News You May Have Missed This Year
So much climate news comes out in any given week that it can be hard to keep up with it all. Much is gloomy, but there are positive developments all the time — so many, in fact, that it’s easy to miss...

My favorite holiday season movie has become “The Holiday” from 2006, staring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black with some great supporting performances by Eli Wallach, Ed Burns, Rufus Sewell, and even a young Kathryn Hahn and John Krasinski.

Do yourself a favor, go see some art over the holidays! I finally got a chance to check out the new expansion of the Portland Art Museum and I feel lighter than when I went in.

1) Jeffery Gibson
2) Keith Haring
3) Amy Sherald (who painted Michelle Obama’s portrait)

A Kia EV6 happily charging away in the parking lot next to Reed Canyon. They installed 6 EV charger handles spread around the Reed Campus this year and I’m happy to see them frequently in use when I walk my dog through here in the mornings.

A lot of friends ask me for advice on what EV to buy. I never recommend Toyota or Subaru for 2 reasons:

1) they are almost worst in class when it comes to charge speed, features, & range.

2) the CEO of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, supports Trump. He wears a MAGA hat.

The 2 things are connected. #nokings

Finally some pushback on the narrative that EVs failed. No, they didn’t. The US failed.

If there had been no additional tariffs on EVs then we would have inexpensive electric cars and US and Japanese brands would be forced to compete. But with no pressure they have just moved backwards.
Western carmakers are coming up against fast-growing Chinese electric-vehicle brands all over the world. Those that slow down production risk giving their competitors an unassailable lead
Retreating from EVs could be hazardous for Western carmakers

A few weeks ago I did a talk for Carnegie and Metropolis Magazine on sustainable design. In it I talk about my journey as an industrial designer from the later 90's to today and how I came to pushing my practice more towards sustainable projects. It just went public: youtu.be/wo_h-aKNwjM?...
