interesting, interesting idea that someone could have fired this dude.
A fantastic investigation showing that the unit run by Greg Bovino, the Border Patrol agent in charge of racial profiling in LA and Chicago, is an outlier even in an agency already notorious for unnecessary use of force. Obama and Biden could have fired him, but didn't.

Hi writers! I’m looking to assign a couple of features for Slate before the end of the year. If you have anything in mind that you think would be a fit please send me a pitch! Jenée.Desmond- harris@slate.com or dm me.

RTs are appreciated so this can reach more people. Thanks!

While this isn't surprising, it's worth noting that this administration is elevating the most violent state actors in the most violent state institution in a country swimming in state violence.

I think Rhodes has said a dozen times this year he was relaunching the OK.
New:

On The Gateway Pundit's podcast yesterday, Stewart Rhodes announced he's relaunching the Oath Keepers

He also urged Trump to “call us up as a militia" & "order us all to come together in our counties under his command."

Very excited for this book release!
Very pleased that @rollingstone.com is running an excerpt of WITHOUT CONSENT today, focusing on the making and impact of a 1980 television movie on the Rideout case featuring a young Linda Hamilton and Mickey Rourke.

Don’t buy his book buy mine (or Jen Percy’s or Olivia Laing’s, both also excellent!)
John Fetterman’s memoir comes out on Tuesday, so if the phone calls don’t work you can always tell him how you feel while he’s on book tour.

I'm a guy. I have a lot of struggles. They aren't so much "man" things as human things. Loneliness, economic hardship, wondering what your purpose is in society/family. These are things men and women have trouble with. BTW there are plenty of good examples how to be a man, they don't want them.

Bail reform not only made New York more just, it also literally made it safer.

Too bad our elected leaders, public safety officials, and the overwhelming majority of the press are so deeply invested in a narrative entirely divorced from empirical reality.

Many thanks to @jeremystahl.bsky.social for his editing prowess and toleration for “wtf!” emails.
Stunning story by @jesspish.bsky.social: He became the most famous sheriff in the U.S. after his hunt for his wife's "real killers" inspired a $60 million 1973 blockbuster ($430 million in today dollars). It was all a lie and his hometown can't deal.

This is a very good piece. I always thought the details about Buford Pusser's life were sketchy. You should read it, especially if you've watched "Walking Tall" -- the original or the remake.
