This is a crazy thing to come on here and say given everything going on in the world but I have to get it off my chest:
People are selling “original artwork” on Facebook marketplace but it’s very clearly what they made at a sip ‘n paint

Seriously, like bro there are military troops in Washington DC RIGHT NOW cracking down on “crime“ that doesn’t even fucking exist. They don’t need an excuse, they will do it ANYWAY.
As someone with 20 years reporting on right wing and fascist movements, you should goddamn know well that it doesn't matter what anyone says or does, they're going to use this as an excuse for authoritarian crackdowns with little to no relevance to the actual crime.
If I have any credibility with you from 20 years of reporting on rightwing & fascist movements, please listen when I beg you not to celebrate Charlie Kirk getting shot. Leave aside morality: this isn’t a match in dry grass, it’s a torch. We do not want what this could ignite & we would not win.

I was extremely offline today and the out of context texts from people who reasonably assumed I was keeping up with the news were a wild ride

To the person sending multiple fake letters to Slate Advice: I am begging you to vary the voice, length, and sentence structure and take the drama down a notch to make the stories more realistic. I’m not against using the ones that are suspicious but actually good. Please just put some effort in

@joelanderson.bsky.social and I are both people who never got into anything related to superheroes but we don’t want the same fate for our three year old. What should we show him and when?

I just realized friends and family never ask me for help with writing stuff (cover letters, emails, applications, texts, etc.) anymore and I think it’s because of ChatGPT! I guess it’s fine but what do I have to offer now? 🥲

it's pretty frustrating how republicans can just spew endless lies about city life with zero repercussions but the moment a dem disparages a pickup truck it's open season

There's a terrible 5th Circuit opinion I'd like you all to see. Lots of people say we should "use conservative arguments against them," but you have to understand, FedSoc judges do not care about their own hypocrisy. They just write their way through it.

I know social media makes everything an adhd symptom but one I haven’t heard about is never being able to make it to the “link in bio.” I will just have to wonder what the article says because I’m going to get bored on the way there

I remember in 2020 the idea that we (not just people who lost someone to Covid or had it, but everyone) were all upset and down and struggling because of the pandemic and “racial tension” was kind of a media/ social media consensus.
And I’m not really seeing that now? I’ve been wondering why

I keep checking for an updated Harper’s letter with all the same signatories but I’m sure they’re just taking their time to make sure it captures how alarmed they are in this moment

I thought I was done with the culture shock of moving from CA to MD but I just asked a bunch of people how they air out their homes in the summer when it’s always hot and humid and the answer was mostly “we wait until fall”!!! I used to open windows every day of my life so this is a lot to digest

I got the idea that pulling an all (or very late) nighter once a week or so would be the secret to having enough time to do everything I need to. Did it and I’ve felt like I’m hungover and in a coma for 2 full days. Follow me for more life hacks

I didn’t realize PBS did this but I agree with the idea as it applies to media in general. If you’re not going to go all the way to lying and wholeheartedly endorsing white supremacy you’re not gonna win this game so stop trying
Turns out that NPR and PBS' pandering to the right still didn't save their funding. Maybe there's a lesson here for media that think that tilting to the right will spare them from accusations of "liberal bias."
The rescission bill has passed the Senate. Once it passes the House, as expected, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's budget will be zeroed out for the first time since 1967, back when TV stations still broadcast in black and white.

I don’t enjoy facing the truth about this court, but it must be done.
Yesterday’s decision in McMahon has me convinced.

I watch a lot of old music videos, 90s/early 2000s R&Bb mostly, and lately they make me kinda sad. I realized it’s because even if the songs aren’t about anything special, they just remind me of a time when we (I?) assumed the world was getting better, little by little

At dinner in a loud restaurant this weekend an old friend across the table asked “when are get gonna get to see your shoulders?” and I automatically pushed my already off the shoulder dress down a little
She actually said “when are we gonna get to see your children?” 😆
