Had to vote in person for the first time in over a decade and.... man even with poll workers doing an excellent job it still took two hours to get my ballot cast. It is truly insane that in this day and age that many people are still forced to do this.

In those days nobody thought anything of you until you'd seen the sandwich. Felt the splatter of tuna salad across your tabard. Felt sweet onion teriyaki dressing soak your hand.

study after study after study shows that literally just handing people money and telling them "do what you want with this" reduces homelessness, increases food security for children, makes it more likely people will find and retain jobs.1

MMT is entirely correct about the economics + resources angle but struggles to deal with the politics of the crisis is where I'm at
I mean, they are right, you can print money with deficit spending and tax it back to prevent inflation. The issue is that this isnt new, and its very hard for democratic governments to execute on higher taxes into inflation

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

This was always the plan.

Project 2025 was Donald Trump's blueprint to seize unchecked power within the federal government and restrict Americans' freedoms. And he is implementing it right in front of our eyes.

I get a lot of strange looks when I say this in meatspace, but I unironically mean it: algorithm discipline is an extraordinarily important skill for navigating modern life without going insane, and it should be taught in K-12 schools.
I *think* a lot of the algos on Insta/Tiktok are pretty good at avoiding right-wing content if you're clearly someone who hates right-wing content, but you have to be a fairly committed person not to have a background of it.
It's really everyone. Your parents. Your kids. Your friends. Your boss. Your elected leaders. Everyone is just constantly On Their Phone or On Their Computer and when they are, they are constantly being fed political information that that they personally find resonant, regardless of veracity.

Yeah pretty much. I don’t want to really live out in sprawl with a giant truck i don’t need and have to drive everywhere. But so long as you actually pay the cost of your water, emissions, infrastructure, etc. I don’t really give a shit. I just don’t want to be forced to subsidize your preference.
My steelman of this argument is that the broad liberal coalition should support the liberal principal that people should be given choices about where they live; density and non-auto neighborhoods have been suppressed, you can unsupress them and the market will handle suppressing the other way.
