If you need proof that the media is more responsible for Trump than the MAGA zealots, look at it this way:

Trump came down that escalator in 2015 and started shouting FAKE NEWS almost immediately. Did the press take him to task and bury him? Nope. They bent over and now they work for him. Losers

Though it’s traumatic for me to bring this up, I was targeted by a group allied with Turning Point USA in 2018, with the help of Tucker Carlson on Fox. My home address circulated online and I got death threats. 1/

This man will not be fired for calling for the murder of American citizens, yet multiple journalists/reporters/teachers lost their job for accurately reporting things Charlie Kirk actually said and stood for.

But it’s the “violent left” that’s the problem

Elon Musk has been a walking SEC violation for a decade and no one cared. The entire Trump era could have been avoided if the US took white collar crime anywhere near as seriously as it does low level drug crime.

On a 2023 earnings call, Elon Musk boasted that Tesla had bagged “over 1 million” Cybertruck reservations and that “demand is off the charts.”

So why has the company still sold less than 50,000 trucks since customer deliveries began 14 months ago?
‘Over 1 Million’ People Wanted a Cybertruck. Where Are They?
“Demand is off the charts!” Elon Musk crowed at the end of 2023, citing more than a million reservations for Tesla's polarizing polygonic pickup—so why has it still sold less than 50,000?

A friend of mine has this theory of Trumpism. Basically the only leaders Trump had access to as a business man were dictators who used the office to enrich themselves and their families and ran for president to do the same thing for himself.

A decade later this theory still holds up.

That's how much Big Oil has spent over the last 30 years paying off Congress to look the other way on climate action while the planet burns.

Well, the planet is burning.

One party is graded on what they actually do for the working class, which would be fair if the other one --which objectively has made life far more miserable for working people -- weren't only graded on how effectively it weaponizes absolute bullshit to stoke ancient grievances.
In @jonathanweisman.bsky.social's magnum opus about Dems and the working class, it's at the end that you get the full truth about 2024: Biden-Harris ran the most pro-worker administration in decades, but voters blamed them for inflation anyway.

DOGE exists to help the extraction class disguise corruption, cronyism, and the brutal dismantling of consumer protection, labor rights, and the social safety net as as "innovative efficiency reforms"

and from everything I've seen the U.S. press is super keen to help support the illusion
I think journalists, policymakers and good govt types are struggling to understand DOGE because their mental model is that it is a government reform commission, operating like previous ones. Maybe. But it might be better to start thinking about it as a hostile takeover of the govt by oligarchs.

If any journalists are struggling to understand this it's because they've either been long conditioned to reflect the interests of the media ownership class, they're still too easily bedazzled by affluent bullshitters, or they're simply not very bright (maybe all three)

There is going to be nothing innovative or efficient about DOGE. It's a lazy pseudo government PR construct designed to try and convince the plebs that getting mercilously fucked by corporate power is actually good for the collective whole

Elon Musk is a good example of how terrible people become increasingly radicalized into the far right simply because the far right is a community that accepts cruel, terrible people.

It's tempting to say Elon is going "mask off", but I'd wager Elon didn't know who Tommy Robinson was 5 years ago. 1/
