Nadim Zahawi arrived in the UK from Iraq as a child refugee. His family claimed asylum once they were here. Today he has joined Reform who will stop all in country asylum applications. Under his new party, his own family fleeing persecution would be immediately deported.

I don't think it's a coincidence that all of this (worldwide) is happening when most of the people who lived through WWII have just died. We need to do a better job of keeping their memories and ideals alive.

A fascinating update on this story: a new study of material associated with Theia (the planet that impacted Earth, formed the Moon & may have left these vast "blobs" under our feet) has concluded it formed in the inner Solar System, a bit closer to the Sun than us:
