Mamdani has shown considerable self-control in the face of some quite horrific tantrums.

Self-control imo is the quality modern masculinity is most sorely in need of.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

I posted yesterday that accepting the inevitability of chance in life has been a big part of my personal journey. Big.

I worry about my loved ones. I do not think I can control that worry with information. If my partner is an hour “late” I can think they’re dead…and just sort of sit with that.

Authoritarian Socialism was tried for decades in Eastern Europe. It failed. Trickle-down neoliberalism was tried for the same length of time in the West. It also failed. During Covid, a majority saw that a different, more modern, more socially aware politics was necessary. But we haven't got that.

I heard @ezraklein.bsky.social say Mamdani is "motivated by his sympathies more than his resentments" and I think that's key to his brand of identity politics
Mamdani does what I've been calling constructive politics: appeals to identity as a building block of solidarity rather than a replacement for it. love to see it
Mamdani turned up at BAYO at Barclay Center yesterday and said he was going to fight to get Haiti off the travel ban and he said Haiti correctly

Frankly, at this point I think resistance to the Nazi comparison is primarily a product of Holocaust exceptionalism, which is itself a very troubling phenomenon that has continually justified the genocide in Palestine

Man, I've been saying for months that American Jews and Muslims are natural allies. So it's pretty gratifying to see winning politicians actually put it into practice. Need more of this.

A common misconception about the history of racialised perpetual hereditary chattel slavery in Anglo American colonies is that there came a distinct moment where the colonial powers suddenly switched from indentured servitude to slavery, and that all were 'servants' in the beginning.

This Day in Labor History: May 13, 1888. Brazil abolished slavery. The last nation in the Western Hemisphere to do so, it brought to an end the fundamental labor force of American colonization. Let's talk about this important moment in human history!

One of the sources of rot running through our political, intellectual, and media institutions is the total triumph of the idea that democracy means outsourcing your morality and point of view to a fuzzily incoherent view of what's popular. Total rejection of the idea of morality as personal virtue.
How is this different than what Republican senators say about Trump

If we’re going to find our way out of this it’s going to be through art, through love, through love that seems foolish and naive and reckless. It’s going to take a reawakening of what it means to be human, to be connected in a fearless way.
