A year in reading! 📚💙

I've been meaning to do this for a while; January is a good time to start. I may not include everything, but I intend to track the books I read in 2025, professionally or for fun.

Thanks to @paulkaye.bsky.social & @georgiarybanks.bsky.social for the inspiration!

WHAT a privilege to feature @hmelehy.bsky.social, reading from his translation of EQUINOX ISLAND, Mauritian poet Jean Fanchette's collection of verse "filled with dimly lit landscapes, and seaside expanses." Enjoy this masterful rendering of a haunting, rarely-heard voice.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

I can remember discussions on Mumsnet years ago about this - but haven’t seen the argument presented as compellingly.

The section on language register is particularly interesting.
