Sen. Alex Padilla, who was just forcibly removed from a DHS press conference, is the ranking member of Judiciary’s subcommittee on immigration, citizenship, and border safety, which has “oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities.”

This is fascism—there are no checks & balances if legislators are arrested for questioning a member of the executive branch.

I struggle to understand how to best operate in this reality. I'm making incredible progress in my state, but uprooting this kind of evil feels beyond the scope of my office.
Sitting US Senator Alex Padilla forcibly wrestled to the ground and arrested by the FBI for attempting to ask a question of DHS secretary Kristin Noem.

"We deserve an America that lives up to its ancient and never-realized promise: land of the free, home of the brave, defender of human rights for every single human within our borders. Ideally, we would not have to fight our own government to get back on that path."
As marines descend on LA, as Trump moves closer and closer to martial law, it will be tempting to victim-blame. To equivocate. To find some reason the protesters deserve what’s coming. They don’t.
What I Saw in LA Wasn’t an Insurrection. It Was a Police Riot.
As Trump mobilizes the marines to quell an “insurrection” in LA, it’s essential to be clear about how the protests started and what actually happened.

David Graeber said this in 2012 about protests in New York City.

Though this is increasingly what is happening this week in Los Angeles.

I thought I would be safe if I positioned myself with all the cable news crews off to the side away from all of the protesters. But nope. I was wrong. The feds shot pepper balls at us, forcing us down Alameda Street with everyone else. @lataco.bsky.social

For me, fighting fascism has nothing to do with thinking I’ll win. I don’t fight because there’s an inevitable outcome, I fight because I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t do something.

the more democrats concede to the republican war on trans people, the more that signals to the public that trans people are a problem and should be stigmatized.

1. Today, the NYT has reported that 100 members of an ERG-adjacent LGBTQ+ chat in the intelligence community have been fired.

This is a new McCarthyism, a new lavender scare meant to remove LGBTQ+ in government, and the way this was done should shake us all.

The 1st vaccine-preventable death of a US child has occurred on RFK Jr’s watch. I’m grimly certain it won’t be the last. Takeaway from the Vox piece: RFK Jr’s current lack of action re: the current outbreak is the best case scenario. Worse outcomes would occur if he meddles w/ local response effort

RFK Jr. has had all of his own children vaccinated (he confirmed this 3 weeks ago). He just wants other people to not vaccinate their children. Especially Black people for some reason… He even required his guests to get COVID vaccines before coming to his party. www.thedailybeast.com/robert-f-ken...

We are seeing it at the same time that race science returns to the public messaging of the mainstream right. From the growth of Quillette to constant discussions of IQ to the normalization of Steve Sailer in mainstream GOP spaces, they feel less inclination to hide their eliminationist ideas.
I wrote about this along with Musk's efforts to gut public health. I ultimately think the whole project is eugenicist in nature. They see death from the flu as humanity purging its "weakest" links.

I truly believe the only chance we have is through protests at hospitals that are complying with executive orders in advance.

These hospitals are attempting to detransition patients or deny transition to new ones because they are scared of Trump.

Great news.

A transgender woman will NOT be transferred to a men's prison facility and forcibly detransitioned, at least for now.

Trump administration has been enjoined from doing so by a judge.

First win in court, as the case continues.
