If you're looking for something fun to play around with while planning your Christmas decorations, I got a string of these -- they're individually addressable in an Arduino sketch, so you can design any pattern or light show you want. And you can power them with 5V.

We're going to talk about the decision to legalize widespread sports gambling the same way we talk about doctors endorsing cigarettes or stuffing every building with asbestos.
i can’t talk about sports gambling anymore without sounding like a crank but i do believe legalized sports gambling is like 15-20% responsible for our current dystopia
The Athletic polled hundreds of players from across the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL about their opinions surrounding how sports betting impacts players — the responses were haunting.

The ideal gambling venue should look and smell like the worst decision you've ever made in your life. I support one single exception to the indoor smoking ban in NY for this purpose. RETVRN.

And if there's one thing I've learned from video games, it's that sometimes this is the best way to reveal an entire ham hidden in the wall. Also, you should eat that ham.
Always knock on walls as you walk by, you never know which spot might be the secret passage opening.

I wonder if the President remembers being briefed on our telecom infrastructure being totally turned inside out by nation state actors.
Side note: Natalie Harp, Trump’s body person apparently, is texting members of Congress in fully unencrypted SMS. This doesn’t matter most of the time for regular people, but absolutely does matter for THE ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT TEXTING MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.
Marjorie Taylor Greene says Trump is lying about her interactions with him — and posted their text exchanges today about the Epstein files.

A sitting member of Congress just posted her messages with the president of the United States.

Ban privately owned trucks larger than a mid-1990s Ford Ranger.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

The last thing in America that's the envy of the world is our university system and these vandals are smashing it to pieces as fast as they can.
Message to all faculty: your expertise is no longer trusted or valued at this so-called “university.”

That's right, people who can't legally get jobs or mortgages are buying up all the real estate. It makes perfect sense if you don't think about it at all.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

Well, it's a little clearer now why billionaires are so invested in technology that produces better written emails.

Is it really a surprise that the deranged Silicon Valley techbro culture that insists there is no value in education outside of STEM fields finds itself completely unable to appreciate the creative endeavors of actual humans?

Messing around with Arduino projects is dangerous because buying components is always "well, the part I actually need is $10 but if I buy this box of five hundred bits and bobs for $15 it's included!" and now I have a drawer full of Future Project.

Can't stop thinking of the analogy I heard that the stock markets still look good in the same way that a cancer patient's weight will remain steady if the tumor grows fast enough.
So our entire economic well being hinges on a company with $20B in revenues spending $1.4T on AI infrastructure when there isn’t enough electricity generated on the planet to power that many data centers?

And as you put together your talks for next year, keep in mind that a lot of events (especially BSides and other local conferences) have tons of people who are new to the field. There's a need for talks about fundamentals. Explaining the CIS Top Controls will often do more good than l33t tool drops.

In most design you have a very small circle of what the product is expected to do. With LLMs you have a very wide circle that you try to limit as best as you can. Understanding this will tell you why it is risky to implement into systems that need precise circles.
