BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

I have said before and will say again that it is such a loss that we no longer get covers of this caliber for fantasy books.

This art is by Jean-Léon Huens. These covers are for the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. They lit my imagination on fire as a kid.

My even more unpopular opinion is unless you have personally experienced the thing, you should probably refrain from having an opinion on it.

We need to return to shaming people for parroting YouTube/TikTok with stuff like "When I want your opinion, I'll just find the YouTuber who gave it to you."

Hundreds of Starbucks baristas and labor organizers blockaded Starbucks' largest distribution center in York, Pennsylvania, halting distribution of syrups, coffee beans, and other supplies to the entire northeast.

Being sufficiently old to remember the days of moral panics over video games, children's cartoons, and D&D is wild to look back on, living as I now do in a world where companies are selling teddy bears that talk to your kids about how to start fires and what sexual kinks they'd like to explore
"Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o model by default...tests repeatedly showed that the AI toy dropped its guardrails the longer a conversation went on, until hitting rock bottom on incredibly disturbing topics."
AI-Powered Stuffed Animal Pulled From Market After Disturbing Interactions With Children
FoloToy says it's suspended sales of its AI-powered teddy bear after researchers found it gave wildly inappropriate and dangerous answers.

Sandel's Tyranny of Merit?

Cramer's Politics of Resentment?
I think this is true but it’s also even worse than this: by doing this I think what elites have inadvertently selected for is malicious low cunning and the willingness to use it as a weapon.
The paradox of the elite is that their most sought-after quality is “smart.” But they’re mostly not smart enough to tell if someone is smart.

One consequence of this is that elite spaces are dominated by people who have learned to sound smart to non-smart people, often by saying stupid things.

It’s useful for people of my generation to be reminded that this wasn’t that long ago. Ruby Bridges isn’t just still alive—she’s only 71, not ancient!
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.
